Spotted owl, wolf "reintroduction", climate change, lead bans, or whatever the next crisis cause is. Just another 3 card Monte game to distract you from the real agenda.
 
I don't believe that there is any subversive 'real agenda' by liberal govts. It is all about special interest lobby and $$ and more $$. In the case of the poor owls..some 'non-profit' group has found a way to get a shitepile of state and federal grants to deal with a searched out problem that noone knew about or would have cared about. And this was a shoe in for the media to broadcast a free concert.

All the new managers are so young. A few have a lot to learn. But most are very good guys that go out of their way to help you. The new owners at Airey Hall are just pouring money into that place. You wouldn't know it it you hadn't been there in a while. I'm almost 54 myself and broke my back in 2005 so I feel about 70 right now.
I could be wrong, but I believe a friend of mine used to farm Hutchinson and maybe part of fenwick. He was also a crop duster pilot. I Actually live in Kingstree but I'm in the area a lot.

Next it'll be the Silverdick Salamander. Anyone ever seen one. My degree is in forestry. I worked with loggers for years. We dealt with the Red Cockaded Woodpecker when the spotted owl stuff was happening across country. But the RCW issue was handled with some common sense. They have lists of plants, frogs, spiders they can't harm. You can't put a teacup full of sediment in a stream but a developer can put a house in the middle of the stream. There's a big double standard.

It is all about $$$. I live on the Or/Ca coastal border. On the Ca side is a 5 mile deserted beach with some mini dunes where people go play on quads and ride horses etc. Some envirofrucks decided they needed some more $ for their 'non-profit' so they identified a friggin piece of dune grass that they declared 'endangered'. Their lawyers threatened lawsuits if the state did not act to protect this grass. The non-profit now got private, state and fed grants galore and a designated area to keep off limits. Who is monitoring them? noone? The locals still riding horses and kids on quads in the same area. It is all a $$ game. I hate most of the people in this world! and dont get me on the Nature Conservancy.

I'm with you. Just like the have a wreck, get a check guys. The lawsuit hunters.
Or the lets file a lawsuit on the chemical company. Makes me sick. I'm with you on the Nature Conservancy also. and the lobbyists. They could care less about a spotted owl. They are out to line their pockets or to put hard working people out of work.

When does it stop being an invasive species and start being part of the natural evolutionary process.. This old rock has changed quite a bit since the beginning of time. We had an ice age, a thaw. I live 40 miles inland on a fresh water river and have an oyster and shell ledge under my dock and when you dig wells here you will find another shell bed at 55 ft deep. I like owls, but not enough for them to cause the industry I work in to go under and to put thousands out of work. Especially when they really had no issue other than people didn't like clearcutting or cutting old growth timber. But you have to to have wood for houses and pulp for toilet paper to wipe with and boxes to deliver pizza in. The owls were just a means to an end.

My issue with the vote is that who knows if the process is fair and accurate. I have little confidence in our voting system. And less in the system used to count them. Especially with no ID and dead people voting, etc. etc. We need term limits for every politician. It shouldn't be a career. These folks need to hack it in a real job while living under the same rules their subjects are subjected to.
 
We all know how bad politics are and I am as conservative as they come but we better keep this thread more on owls and less on politicians or it will get shutdown
