Gov Wants Barred Owls Killed

Rick I can tell ya Spotted owls taste somewhat better than chicken, especially Bar-B-Qued.

For those that don't understand
Spotted owls were the lefts excuse to shut down our woods to logging effectively putting thousands of loggers and mill workers out of work.
Now this, I think I'll keep my iorns settled on the freakin wolves.
And if I remember correctly years later after the goal of killing the timber industry was achieved that it was discovered they didn't have an issue to begin with. Their goal was to stop logging..

There's plenty of that talk going on right now
Man that would be a dream come true. I'd even buy my first 375 Cheytac for this. But I think there is more chance of us seeing them build a shrine for Donald Trump in Portland than declaring open season on feral Burros and horses. But it is ok to do it on pigs?

What a bunch of Gummint crap. Eradicating birds of prey makes zero sense. I have both Barred and Great horned Owls in forest behind my house. I live in western Washington state and saw the logging business shut down over the invasive Spotted owl. Invasive Barred owls eat Spotted owls. Why the outrage???
John
"Barred owls are an invasive species in the Pacific Northwest, originating on the U.S. East Coast, and they pose a huge threat to native protected species, including northern spotted owls."

In other circumstances they would call them "migratory" - like the problematic geese we seem to have too many of here in DelMarVa...

The barred owls have already cross bred with the spotted owls. They are bigger and stronger so they skip foreplay.

I just figured it out.....
The owls eat rodents, as do wolves
Our Fish And Game has determined that if we wipe out owls there will be more food for the wolves, You know the wolves we never asked for to begin with.
I'm thinking, thier thinking if the wolf has more avaliable food then maybe they'll lay off the ranchers livestock, and not kill so many deer and elk.
Man's influence on natural selection and all, now if it only worked on politician's.

But they're NOT invasive. Newsweek is incorrect. Imagine that...

I
In nature species are constantly attempting to expand their range and become reproductively established. It appears that the Feds have arbitrary used the term "invasive" to describe a natural process. Barred owls were not relocated or escaped in the NW to become established. The article even states that they have been expanding their range and numbers since the 1950's. The downfall of the Spotted Owl was due to habitat fragmentation and loss of mature forests by humans, not by Barred Owls. And let's face it. When it comes to screwing things up, we are the best! :D I just don't see a lot of interest in people wanting to go out and shoot owls, especially a species that is assisting in the downfall of the Spotted Owl, the most hated bird in the region, thanks again to the federal government.
if you don't believe the government can screw something up. Just look at what they did to the common everyday Gas Can.

A guy I used to rock climb with was in logging and said Feds were shooting owls ~15 years ago to save spotted owls. Even horses can be considered invasive so why no fuss over them ? The BLM has well over 50,000 in captivity, why not send some wolves their way ?
We have invasive deer on Catalina island and they want to wipe out all 2,000 of the by helicopter and let them lay.

It's a shame. Animals do migrate and adapt and they were doing it a long time before we got here. It's not like Africanized bees stowing away on a cargo ship And coming in from a foreign country. We have a set of islands down near Beaufort called the Willomans. There have been wild goats on them since the early 1800s. Our wildlife dept. decided to kill all of the goats to make it better habitat for deer. Many of us actually thought they were pretty neat to see and something unique. Now they are all gone. Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder.

Beaufort SC? I rake care of an island across the sound from Lady's Island.

Hutchinson over by Bennetts Point.
Gotcha. I'm onbailey Island at Edisto right now and working at Nemours this week. I get to Whitehouse, Airy Hall, Social Hall, Cheehaw Combahee, and Bluff plantation fairly regularly with work. and stay on Edisto island at Bailey or Racoon Island a good bit

Oregon is a huge state. There is one area that is f***d up bad. The rest is still fine and most areas better than the rest of the usa due to ur demographics. I was at my local gun shop today and a guy had bought 2 used 9mm pistols. The owner filled out the paper work and submitted. Not 10 min later he was approved and walked out with his new guns. Yup those gun haters in Oregon have us tied to a barrel.

Had you not noticed, Oregon is following the unconstitutional law implemented against the resident's will in CA, it's not as if any of the residents had anything to say about it. But I will say this...my guess is it's gonna be a cold day in leftist #E!! before the residents roll over and hand over their firearms. There was a time in my life that CA didn't even require serialized firearms. I wonder how they would know about those millions of firearms...???

IMO, and just my opinion, all of us need to be careful. The barred owls are just the next reason why the left needs to stop us from using firearms. At Metcalf range in South San Jose, they are actually under attack for endangering some type of a "rock". I kid you not, Coyote Valley Sporting is as well...and a butterfly too!

I think we all need to understand what this is all about. I could be wrong, but much of the gun control seems to allow them to place some type of regulation that will generate revenues from the firearms owners. Heck CA does the same thing with car registration and smog requirements. CA created the 2-step approach. It is still trying to defy the SCOTUS, just as other states like OR, WA, IL, NY, et al...in general it matters not why any of us use firearms, and most of our current infringements go back to the NFA in 1934. This needs to be abolished, despite how the left kicks and screams.

All of this is nothing for any of us to gloat about...:(

I “titled” this thread gov wants owls “killed.”
Newsweek “titled” their article wants owls “shot.”
Interesting “shot” would be a more triggered word.

IMO if “they” want them shot then “they” should be the ones to shoot them.

I know right where you are. Used to put in at Bennett Point some. Plus I fish and shrimped a spot where Ashe comes into the sound. I'm down here a lot for work.

Interesting. You are all around me. I used to visit and sell fertilizer to most of those places years ago. But I don't know the new generation of managers.
