Got Scammed

Happened on another board:
It’s my own fault. I got super excited that someone actually had the bullets I was looking for. So, I sent payment not even thinking it through.
10’s of thousands of dollars and hundreds of flawless transactions and it finally happened. It was time to pay the piper I guess.

This is just a PSA. Nothing more.

I was close a month back on a fake Remington website.all looked perfect and I "sort of" placed the order. What keyed me off when I was finishing the order was there was no way to put in FFL info for shipment of the firearm but I went through anyway and faked some of my info. Shortly after I got an email from them asking me to Zelle the money.
It was a very well-set-up website I'm sure a lot of people got ripped off.

About a year earlier there was a great "buy it now " deal with a zero feedback new seller on gunbroker and I jumped in . There was no communication from the seller after the letter sent and I was just frustrated with myself that I fell for it. (A Ruger #1 V 25-06 200 year for $450... I should have known!)
Then the rifle showed up to my dealer and the guy's license was in there for the transfer.he was about 80 years old and just slow in communication.

I transfer electronically also but just not with shooting equipment. Seems scammers are all about this knowing that there are shortages. Then they swoop in. Hope you find your bullets at a decent cost.

Hey Josh.
129gn Nosler ABLR. Unobtanium.

Waiting on a barrel to finish a 6.5G build for piggies.
Darn! I don’t have any of those. I’d send them if I did. You’ve always been good to me. Wanna try some 120 grain Sierras? They shoot well in my gun!

Wherever possible, I pay by credit card or PayPal (then I pay PP by cc). If it's a scam I can then contest the charge. In maybe 15-20 years I've only had to do that once, and I did get my money back. Sometimes you can't do that, though, then you've just got to go by the seller's feedback record. I never use PP F&F unless it really IS a friend or family. If you don't know the seller personally using F&F just seems dishonest and also takes away your protection. I'd rather just pay the extra 3%.

You can get in touch with Venmo and tell them that you got scammed. Probably won't get your money back, but most of the time they close the account of the scammer.

My concern is that they will close mine as well.
I am currently transferring the balance of my funds out of Venmo so they cannot hold them. When that is complete, I will contact them regarding the scam.

Understand. Just don't tell them it was for bullets. Say it was for outdoor equipment, or parts for a recreational tool. Not lying, just not being specific. :)
