I'd love it if we all wrote a Wiki about this. I sold my buddy a scope, and his wife bought him a scope, and now he doesn't need either. The one his wife bought him is BNIB (don't get me started, at least she knows what his hobbies are). I was thinking of selling them for him here (once I have physical possession).
I'd love to see a Wiki, that also includes info on how to simultaneously protect the buyer, AND seller. I had planned on posting lots of custom photos, with a card with my Username on it in every photo, but Forum Boss says that's not good enough. I'm certainly not going to accept Zelle/Venmo/Paypay. Fuck those companies.
I've always paid with a check my bank sends, since it has to be legit. I figured that's what I'd accept as well? I don't want somebody cancelling a check on me.
Snozz,
The first thing I would do is buy a subscription to the site. That shows that you are committed to the site as more than a place to peddle your wares.
Additionally, just put your number in any PM you send about the scope you are selling. That gives the buyer an option to call and vet you out before purchase.
As far as payment options, you can accept whatever you are comfortable with, but just realize that a lot of buyers may not be as comfortable with them as you are. Give options.
Finally, in regards to pictures, post up what you are comfortable with and put in your ad that more pictures will be provided on request and if you have a serious buyer, let them tell you what they want.
At the end of the day it is the buyer's responsibility to protect themselves, but if you are an honest seller, try to do as much as you can to ease the buyer's mind.
