The scope company used to be pronounced "Lee-a-pold" until the last 25 or so years of TV advertisers. Same as Say-ko has become Sah-coe. That's OK I guess since I was born in "Be-at-triss" Nebraska and after Be-at-triss Food was bought by Birdseye or somebody they started saying "Be-a-tris" on TV. I went to High School in Olney pronounced "All-knee", but after it became a growing suburb, the influx of elitists started saying "Oh-l-knee". Hmm, just name parts of Rockville Norther Bethesda or rename Bethesda to Potomac to sound like you live in a fancier area of the mundane suburbs.A couple of my pet peeves have been mentioned. Weapon. Hornaday.
Same guys who say "Hornaday" will also say "Mondy, Tewsdy, WInsdy."
I had a girlfriend years ago with the last name Leupold. She and her entire family pronounced it "Lee-a-pold."
Surprised no one mentioned "heads" yet a.k.a. tips or pills.
Off rant, but not on off ramp.
