jds, it's not the folks you describe, it's a bunch of radicals in Portland who think none of us should use or own firearms that just happen to have their own idea of what a church is and what it's purpose is. "Lift Every Voice Oregon" is the name of this outfit, and up until this ballot measure, I'd never heard of them or their 'church'. I agree with your assessment of most church goers, but these birds are not in that group. It seems more of a anti-gun political org than any real church.
But they are active, in that they actually got enough signatures to qualify their measure on the OR ballot. While well-meaning, it totally ignores the 2A, and the the poor wording enticed the low-information voters out there to sign up to "save lives". In reality, it won't do anything of the sort, just place unwanted and unneeded restrictions of law-abiding citizen firearm owners and have absolutely no effect on reducing any gun crime. It's like the entire script was drafted by sleepy Joe himself.
But today I see a CA Federal Judge Roger Benitez has overturned the high-cap magazine ban as completely unconstitutional. The communists will appeal of course as they always do. This is not the end of this one.
