Good day at the range

Sunny, 70 degrees and just enough air moving so you could clearly see the mirage. Days like this are pretty rare in my part of Fly Over Country. Juggled front bags around with the HV gun, played musical scopes with the Hunter gun until I was happy and wondered again why it took me so long to start cleaning with the Accelerator/Wipeout combo.:D

Life is good. :) -Al

The directions say accelerator first, then wo/po. I use it that way as well. They also make a separate carbon remover.

I have resisted getting a bore scope so can't say how well any of them work. I do know they do a good job of removing the copper.

Al, ya otta had listened to BIG MIKE sooner . . . sometimes he knows stuff that he learned when someone felt sorry for him . . . The Accellerator and WipeOut (either PatchOut, or foam) *cannot be mixed in one container: they combine to produce a chemical reaction which dissolves/removes the crap! o_O;) Alone, the WipeOut/Patchout are very slow working - to make quick work of the crud, the Accellerator is needed. RG

P.S. *I suppose they could be mixed into a single container, but the reaction may prove troublesome.:p

Yes....BIG MIKE has never steered me wrong.

The Accelerator has a kind of citrus-ish odor and doesn't stink up the basement of my sod hut. Good stuff...thank B.M. again for the tip. :) -Al

Try reading the instructions.
Accelorator speeds up the action of the WipeOut.

Well Duh...Professor. I don't know it all, but
at the top of the bottle of wo/po on the back, if you can find it, THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY, for use it may be used 3 ways: INSTRUCTION #2 says: As a pre-clean wet patch BEFORE APPLICATION OF ACCELERATOR.

I run a couple of wet patches thru to get rid of the easy carbon, then brush with wo/po before using accelerator. Use it however you want. Maybe some day I'll know it all.

Now if you have problems interpreting those instructions, maybe your Grandkids can help you.

Hi Al.
Does the wipeout combo remove hard carbon?
ty Don

Yes. It just takes longer. I clean as in post #6 using a 7mm iosso nylon brush. I brush both the wo/po and the accelerator after 2 wet patches first of wo/po. Let set over night and repeat a couple of times. I don't use abrasives much anymore.

I shoot short range and clean every 10-15 shots at the range, so that makes a difference in carbon buildup. Different results for different disciplines.

I've heard this product doesn't work as well with the new powders with the anti-coppering agents. No experience with that myself.

Dave, I think the light brown on the patches with the Accelerator/Wipe Out method may be carbon. My bore scope seems to agree.

Your thoughts? -Al

Al, according to the label, yes, brown patch indicates dissolved carbon.;) The above mentioned CarbOut
(#7-charlie b) is also good stuff! Interestingly, the info regarding, "brown indicates carbon", does not appear on the CarbOut lebels - just the WipeOut/PatchOut labels. :D Borrow BIG MIKE's readers next time he drops by!! :p RG

Yup, my first 2 patches with wo/po are pretty dark. That's why I don't brush until I push the 2 wet patches through. No use brushing the carbon back and forth in the bore, I'm thinkin.

I tried that foam stuff long ago. Probably would be good at home overnight, but it was too messy at the range for me.

Do you put 2 patches of the Accelerator? Then let it soak (for how long)? I use Thoroughclean and love it, does it hurt the bore? Not that I've seen (yet).
Thank you sir!

Patches of wo/po...put some on brush..then 12 strokes, apply wo/po when brush is out of muzzle...12 more strokes..apply accelerator when brush is out at muzzle...10 strokes, apply again..10 strokes....load ammo, then 1 wet patch , 2 dry, and one with a drop of lock ease or oil.

I thought the thorroclean worked well. Maybe a bit expensive and I had a good supply of wo/po so never changed.
