Going to Super Shoot as spectator question

Well I have never been to a bench rest match, and since Kelbys is not that far from where I live, I think I will go check out the super shoot this year. My question is when should I go? Would it be better to go a few days before the matches start. Mabie I could talk to some of the shooters that way. Thanks

Howdy !

Going to the shoot early is a commendable notion.
You can wander through the camper area, and catch shooters there; also.... up at the " loading barn ".

You may want to take along a note book !!!

I don't know how this would apply to the Super Shoot, but I always spectators that plan on attending a match that a comfortable camp char, a spotting scope and tripod, ear and eye protection are good to have along, along with a note pad. That way you can settle down somewhere behind the benches and watch how a couple of groups (and sighters) come together while they are being shot, notice what the flags are doing, see how guns are handled, and take a few notes. Add some water and a lunch, and you are good to go.

Yes they will be so think of that in advance, also you may get a offer to shoot as shooters sometimes bring extra ammo and rifles and they like helping new guys out, if you get an offer take it, and learn, most guy's really are willing to help you all thay can, we need the sport to stay alive so we need new blood, I have never been to that super shoot but usually they are very busy, so maybe a shoot before or two would be better to get started at, because they probably would answer your questions better then at the BIG shoot

Hey napsac I would say to get over there on Saturday or Sunday before the match. There will be lots of people there then and lots of guns to look at. Bring some ear muffs for sure, spotting scope is nice to see what's happening on a target, but not required.

By Monday, it starts to get really hectic at the line, everyone is trying to get a bench to shoot on.

Look me up, as I will hopefully be parked on the road to the south of the shop.

Stop on by and look around and talk to some people. Most of them will be happy to talk, other's not so much. hehe

napsac...since your coming from Indiana stay in Wooster,,,then go up Akron Rd to Fulton Rd then Fox Lake rd aprox 1 mi....you are there ....event starts on wed....most are there Mon....its pretty casual till wed.!!! when the shoot begins.....the kitchen is open during the event,food is very good (breakfast/lunch) ,,,vendors are ALL there....you wil find lots of good deals...$$$...gguns/ammo/etc...Roger

Aren't a bunch of the shooters over at Chippewa on Saturday and Sunday? Wadsworth may be the closest motels with a vacancy. Next, try Masillon or Akron.

I usually go to he Super Shoot as a spectator. I was at Kelby's yesterday. I live about 40 minutes away. Kelbly put my 6BR barrel on my GH gun.

The range closes 13 May to the public, matches 23-27 May. The range reopens to the public the day after Memorial day. Cabellas always has a tent set up with shooter supplies. I don't know if Cabellas will be there before 23 May. Many other vendors. Bring some money in case they have primers, powder, and bullets. Yesterday 5 May there were already three mobile homes parked and three competitors practicing. It isn't practical or much fun to watch the shooting. You cannot approach the firing line. It's more interesting to walk around and look at the equipment in the large indoor reloading area and talk to people. Bring ear protection. They usually have a video camera attached to a spotting scope so you can look at one target. I cannot remember if there was a fee to get in on match days. If there was it was very reasonable. No fee before 23 May. If you go a few days before 23 May there will be at least 100 competitors and it's more casual. They will all be practicing and tuning up. Competitors from outside the US arrive at least 3 days before the start date.

the super shoot is on the edge of Amish country so if you want a short sightseeing trip go to Lehmans hardware in Kidron. less than 20 miles away or to Berlin which is only a little farther.
