Insane Gunbroker Price on H4895

At $200 a pound, Fort Knox has nothing on me right now!:p The last time I bought H 4895 was I’m thinking 2018 or 2019 from powder Valley. It was just over $400 for 2 8 pound jugs and that is with shipping and hazmat. I remember wondering if I was doing the right thing sense I had already had 20 pounds on hand. Thank you William Jefferson Clinton, you came through again! I might be shooting my BRA against myself, but at least I will be shooting.
i think what ive got is from that same time frame and i prob got it from the same place.

I haven’t bought H4895 since pre Covid, just broke into my last 8 pounder. When it’s gone it gone, I won’t replace it at asinine prices. I use it a lot for reduced loads but there are other powders that can do what I need. Once in a great while I’ll find a decent deal on gunbroker but the norm makes a guy want vomit.

Hopefully they start shipping larger quantities of the stuff. I’ve seen it a couple time over the past couple of years but it’s usually gone in minutes.

Josh is right. If you shop on GB, then you deserve what you get. Like the D-bags at gunshows who are trying to sell ammo for triple the cost of what it can easily be had for online -- if you buy from them, then you are part of the problem. Excellent (1/2 MOA capable) factory 6.5 CM ammo can be bought online for as little as $1.15 per round, delivered. Norma brass, which is included in the stuff to which I refer, would cost about $1/piece. Add $0.35 for a bullet. Powder and primer, and most of all your irreplaceable TIME to reload, increases the cost. So, in this scenario, why would I reload? I wouldn't. So I bought ten cases of the stuff, and I'm not sure that is enough. :)

At a local gunshow, there was a table with 8 lb jugs of 4064 at $455 per. Or, for those of us who know the other sources in this area, simply drive 20 minutes to the shop where they sell this powder for $299/jug.

Caveat Emptor.
yeah Ive never bought anything on gunbroker but ive sold a few things. Not much in LGS that sell powder around here. Have to order and pay hazmat/ship. 6.5 CM does have the factory load availability advantage. thats a thought. thanks

Hi Nakneker— Im still working on preCovid components to. Dont know what ill do when they are gone. I, like everybody else , hope things get better. I think the solution is to just get Rich. lol- Hope you are doing well these days.

Good question. Shipping costs + Hazmat fee can really run up the cost. The only way I've ever been able to minimize this is by buying in big lots, even to the point af making up a bulk shipment by sharing an order with shooting buddies. That can bring down the price per pound a lot. Also, if you haven't already looked, you might want to check out Powder Valley for prices. I've generally found them to be quite a bit cheaper than most places. Good supplier.
In a way I am lucky now because for awhile Precovid i was buying more volume of powder and primers just to spread the hazmat/ship out some. Now i still have some of that stuff. I do check around some. Im not in buy mode just yet but if i get there ill be looking much more. thanks

The last time I bought powder on GB was 10-17-22. There was a container of N133 that started of at 160 bucks. I won it for $211.00 and after shipping, Haz-Mat and tax it came to $258.50. Now I'm the last person in the world who needs more powder but at that price I couldn't pass it up. Like Butch Lambert reiterated if the price is good buy it whether you need it or not. That was $30.00 more than I ever paid for any 8 pound jug in my life.

I also shoot H4895 in my 6BR along with a few other calibers... I did pick up more 8Lb jugs at my LGS 2nd half of 2022 along with Varget.

Just checked, they are out of stock of H4895 1 and 8lb but they do have Varget in stock, both 1lb and 8lb.. $315.99 for 8lb and $45.99 for 1lb... I grabbed 2 more Varget 8lb from them a month or so ago. Weird, because it was harder to find than H4895 the past 2 years now it appears to be around often now.

Here's the link I have - says it's in stock. [Odd about the other one with a different price]

think we are talking about two different powders: H4895 vs IMR489

For what it's worth, H4895 and IMR4895 are two very different animals, even though they can often be used in similar applications.

For the OP - most of the reloading supplies you'll find listed on GunBroker are ridiculously over-priced. If you keep your ear to the ground at the LGSs, and check frequently at online vendors such as Bruno's, Powder Valley, Graf's, MidSouth, etc., you will likely be able to find some H4895 eventually that is not so stupidly expensive. In the meantime, I'd also be looking for replacement powders such as Vihtavuori N135/N140, Accurate 2495, or IMR 8208XBR. Don't pay such a crazy price for H4895. Take your time and find some H4895 at a more reasonable price, or try one of the replacement powders. I think you'll get a lot more for your hard-earned money if you do.

Thanks for being concerned about me Ned. I wont be paying 200/# for powder anytime soon. Ive got some other alternatives I can use for now. That H4895 showed promise in this gun and its the only thing ive shot in it so far (150 rnds)-- Ive got some varget though Im gonna try next. I havent tried tge accurate powders but i need to do that
thanks
