Going for a mile

So I'd like to go for a mile and realize it might be a long shot. Pun intended? But anyways, I have a 300 win mag, just the sps model with the sporter 1-10 twist 26" barrel. Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x50 on top. Looking at those Flatline projectiles from warren tool and looking at the numbers, I'd have enough adjustment to get me there with the 20 moa base I have. Question is, what is the probability of that rifle getting me that far accurately? Is it worth the effort? I was going to try it out at 1000 yards first before I make a long haul to a range that let's me go out to a mile. I haven't changed anything on the rifle itself mostly because it was intended for bear, if I ever go for it. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

how many MOA is in the 6500's? I don't think your gonna have enough adjustment to hit 1000 yards.
What bullet and load are you shooting?
what kind of distance have you shot? anything past 100?

Just guessing none. I don't think 20 Mia is enough. What do you call accurate . Some days at 1000 yd 4'' is good and other time the same gun shoots 12'' .
I never have shot a mile . Most use a 20 Moa base at 1000 .
If that's your thing go for it . Larry

The 300 win will do it no problem. How accurate is your rifle? If its an average sps I would guess an honest 1.5 moa. At 1760yds thats about 18 inches. Assume you have an es of 15 fps. your going to ad another 12-14" in vertical from that. Add in some mirage and wind....

I don't think it's making it.
from what I just saw the scope only has 80 MOA in it trusting you will have 40 then the 20 from the base you will end up around 60 and you will need 70-75 depending on what you run. you wont be able to run anything over the 175 bullets for the brand your talking.
A lot of extra stuff go into shooting that kind of distance. and I don't think that I would put much faith into any entry level factory gun to be consistent enough to do what any justice at that distance. Start shooting 700-1000 and if you can't stay sub MOA 90% of the time then don't waste your time going further.

What kind of reticle? If moa or mil then those graduations can be added to what you have available on the turret. I say go for the mile. Set up the target where you can see the misses splash, and get a spotter who can walk you onto target. Worst case is you have a lot of fun burning some ammo.

I agree with Alex Wheeler.... I have a 20in x 40in piece of steel I shoot at those distances. It's nice and big and I can check my grouping when it is a perfect day on it. My hold was 55.25 MOA at 1774 yds. the last time I shot that with my 300. I am just over 5k feet. It's all just one big guess and your guesses have to be as close to the real deal as possible. You can quantify speed, spin, col, and distance but your BC is an average that changes and the wind and wind gradient call/read is a fluid educated guess. JMO

what are the specs on your 300? and what distance do you zero at?

I would shoot 1000y first and see how it goes. If the conditions are right you might be able to stretch it out farther on the same day.

It's the fine cross hair and it has 65 moa, not 80 moa like they advertise. It's a factory sps. Mathematically with those bullets I'd make it. But add all the factors in and I might not. I shoot 1000 now with a 6mm, trying to get to half moa by the end of the season. Did 3/4 moa last year. So wit the 300 win mag I'd be happy staying around 1-1.5 moa. I zero at 100, which should leave me with almost full elevation adjustment left

Dragman- I have a 1-8 Rock Creek on my 300 wm now. Before that I had a 1-9 R.C. and before that a 1-9 Bartlin 27 in on all of them. I have a TAC 300 (Stiller) action AICS 2.0 and Timney. I change optics sometimes between my NXS 5.5-22 to my Gen.II 4.5-27. I generally sight in @ 100 yards. I use Norma brass and shoot several different projectiles. Berger 215s, 230 OTM and Target, ELDM 208gr. and Flat Line 198 gr. so as you know my holds will be different for each projectile. For as much as I shoot I like the Hornady ELDM line, especially for the price but I have not shot them enough to see how they fly past 1200 yards. You can't go wrong with Berger bullets and Flat Line is something new I started shooting bc my curiosity of the extremely high BC. If you need any thing else message me.

It's got plenty elevation with the 20 min base. I have the same setup.
