GM Top Engine Cleaner

I have read that this product works wonders on removing carbon and have bought a can of the "old" cleaner.

What is your method for using it?

Bronze brush with cleaner?
Soaking barrel with cleaner?
????

George

I use it with a bronze brush and also mixed, 2 TEC to 1 Kroil. I have heard that the new TEC is just as good but have no first hand experience.

Hi All, When the old GMTC went off the market in Australia, i was lost with my 1K Heavy Gun, nothing else gun or motor related worked as well.. I found another that is IMO the same stuff ,it's Engine Tuner sold by EVINRUDE/JOHNSON the outboard guys..If it is not the same it still works the same and that's all that matters..This product comes in a US gallon under part # 777189 and i believe it comes from the US to AUST..It's well priced in the gallon size and we just bought a coupla cans and distributed it amongst the other shooters .. I have tested GMTC on a piece of barrel stub now for over 3 years when i remember it i put a drop more on the stub and let it dry off till next time, i have inspected it with up to 50 power magnification and there is no appreciable change in the metal surface texture or color ,so imo it can not harm the steel at all,or certianly not as much as 80 gns of gunpowder can..JR..Jeff Rogers

In the `80s, a nation wide store called Canadian Tire sold a spray can of carb cleaner that came out as a foam. Soak a patch and run it through the bore got rid of carbon mighty fast. Best stuff I ever used. It was discontinued without explanation, probably something to do with contaminating the biosphere or whatever.

So I will give the "new TEC" a try and see how it compares.

I have used the Mercury/Quicksilver outboard 'Power Tune' spray and it works well. However I also use the 'Patch Out' liquid by wipe-out and that works well too - so well that I haven't tried their carb-out product.

GM TEC used to carry part # 1050002 I used it for years. When word leaked that they were discontinueing it I went to the local Pontiac dealer and cleaned their shelf of all of it. My word leaker is an engineer at GM. He said further that they'd be coming out with the same stuff under a new Number. That new number is # 88861802
I returned to the Pontiac dealer about a month later for some work on the Montana and spoke to the parts manager. They had already received the new shipment. I bought one can of Part #88861802 and brought it home. The label on the can is slightly different and the new number is on it. I checked the CAS numbers on both batches and the numbers are the same all the way down the list. The only difference? About a buck per 15 fluid ounces more. #88861802 can also be bought on line at GMPartsdirect.com
