Could have ground the bolts down to solve that issue quickly.Bingo! I have a Remington 40-XC that I shot back in the 1980's. I was in the habit of snugging the action into the stock whenever I shot. Unfortunately, the stock did compress. I realized that when the screw protruded far enough into the action that I couldn't close the bolt. Having pillars installed took care of that problems.

Ive never seen anybody pillar bed a stock without bedding as well. You want your action to have full contact- not sitting on 2 points.
