Glass bed, pillar bed or both?

Pillars keep the stock from compressing under screw tension and changing tension with the weather

Bingo! I have a Remington 40-XC that I shot back in the 1980's. I was in the habit of snugging the action into the stock whenever I shot. Unfortunately, the stock did compress. I realized that when the screw protruded far enough into the action that I couldn't close the bolt. Having pillars installed took care of that problems.

Could have ground the bolts down to solve that issue quickly.

To get these advantages of the pillars that action and lower metal needs to test on them. Otherwise the support is indeterminate.
Given the choice I like to eliminate the problem and shoot my tube guns:-)

My testing has shown if bed properly and torqued properly there will be no issues with regard to loosening. I prefer full contact with bedding only no pillars.

Ive never seen anybody pillar bed a stock without bedding as well. You want your action to have full contact- not sitting on 2 points.

Agree to a large extent. I like to tighten against the surface of the foot print of the action as opposed to two small pillars.

I wish someone would do a test, or study and the accuracy potential of a rifle that was pillar bedded only, bedded only, pillar and bedded, and with a factory bedding block. I’m not sure how they would do it, but I would be very interested in the results!
But you know what they say: you can wish in one hand..... lol
