Giraud Trimmer

I normally size .002" below bullet diameter and as for VLD chamfer angle, its just a question that I am not really concerned because I use a regular deburring tool, just a question I just threw up there, if the VLD angle really matters at all.
You may have gleaned that I don't believe it does matter. If you size .002" under, just chamfer slightly with the Wilson tool (or the like), and spin the case mouth against a small wad of steel wool to round off and burnish the fresh chamfer edge, and you're good to go IMHO. But with your new Giraud you'll have quite a bit more than a minimal chamfer.

Just got the Giraud at last, before I even started to trim anything, I wanted to get familiar with it, so I started to measure the shoulder bump and trim length on the supplied .308 case ( cutter and holder already set from Giraud) and the shoulder bump is spot on as my Lapua sized brass but the trim length is off by .020" on the supplied case and I assume the cutter is too deep so I decided to order the lock rings first before I even fool with it. I guess I can start trimming on Christmas Eve.

Keep in mind any culls you create while experimenting can be set aside for leather hole punches. Useful if you get a new belt for Christmas that's too long. Here's one I optimized with pliers to make elongated holes:

Hooked up the new Giraud, and took me 10 minutes to get accustomed to adjusting the cutter and trim length, took me at least 30 minutes to trim / chamfer 150 pieces of 6.5 Creed and .308 brass including adjustments. So cool and in so little time. Used a .005 shim between the lock rings and trimmer face so the lock rings won't deface the trimmer over time.

Love my Giraud, have had it for several years. After buying multiple cutting heads and inserts the only problem I have is sore fingers from trimming to much brass at one siting.

Now you guys need to get Doug's annealer!

I have cutter heads set up for each caliber. I found there is no degradation of quality work if I use, say the case holder for 6.5 Creedmoor on my 6 Creedmoor brass. Likewise for my 308, 7MM08 and 260 brass as log as I use the correct cutter header caliber. I too, as suggested above, make final adjustments using some arbor shims of varying thickness (purchased from Grainger) to adjust trim length.
I also use my Giraud for me plat trimming, which I do prior to pointing. Bottom line, it's a great machine and a great company. Doug is a class act and stands behind everything he makes/sells.
