Giraud Trimmer Problems

I have a Giraud trimmer and it works great on my .308 and .223 brass. The 6br is a different story, I set up the trimmer to trim to a certain lenght and then try a different piece of brass and it will trim .010-.030 more off. The brass also seems to get stuck in the case holder. I spoke with Dougs wife and she said to send in a couple of pieces of fired brass along with the case holder and he could open it up. Well I tried to set up the trimmer for my 6.5x47 and I have the same problem. Is this common for the case holders to be recut to fit brass.

Yes. If you are resizing with a bushing die, or just neck sizing, you must have it opened up to your brass specs. I had to have this done with my .308. Doug took care of it for me right away.

I resize everything FL bushing. .308 and .223 seems okay, should I send them out also?

If you are feeling any sticking, then yes.

My technique - I use a dial caliper to measure my cases before cutting and also afterwards for each case cut. As you know, using this trimmer is a 'feel' operation. Everyone of my cases are cut perfectly using this method. I don't have practice rounds. Each is prepped and loaded to match standards no matter the operation in progress.

Had this happen on brass that I SS tumbled and forgot to resize. The brass stuck and so forth.

You'd definitely need a modification if you're only neck sizing brass.

Had this happen on my set up fpr 243 Win. Took an old brass brush, wrapped it with a cleaning cloth, and applied a bit of lapping compound. Opened up the neck just enough to stop the brass from sticking. The trimmer works off the shoulder so if there is a bit of tolerance in the neck area it makes no difference in the overall length.
