Getting tired of the equiptment race.

I can't see weight limit with just the gun also, unless you weighed the gun and scope and subtracted manufacturers advertised weight.. I wouldn't want to remove my scope every time

Ray

One of the lightest scopes is a weaver 36x, $400.
Everyone at the line where I shoot has top notch equipment. No one is winning or loosing due to equipment.

Hell, I shot a 12''er last month. Wasn't equipment, I read the wrong conditions and though I was doing good.

Matt I shot there 3 years ago so I under stand. What I was trying to say you look down the line and all you see is gray hair. That is not growing the sport. Is it because of the equipment .3 Years ago we had 18 to 25 shooter with no rules .We started makeing rules that were nation wide. Now we have a hard time getting 8 shooters. None of the hard nose shooter want to help grow the sport. When I shot there their was 157 shooters. Has it increased in numbers. I would love to see the result of a timed event. Larry

That works ever time but it is too simple. Larry

Larry,
Do you guys still have rules for the gong matches? I thought they went back to the way it was? If so are the numbers back up?

No the numbers at Williamsport are steady and its about all we can handle with the amount of benches. 3 years ago till the end of the day I couldn't talk any more. I had to go get another guy to finish because I was going hoarse. 28 relays with 2 rangemasters is too much in a day. There is a lot more talking in the World Open because of keeping track of set up time. I still shoot the same gun I did back in 2001 in both classes. The same scope too. I first started with an old used heavy gun and was a mauser. My first light gun was a trued Remington because the wait time on a BAT was too long and I wanted to shoot. I believe I won as many relays with those as I do now. The worse thing about the mauser is it was right handed and that din't work well for a left handed shooter. Matt

I'd suggest you look to some of the action pistol and multi-gun sports for recruiting. I'm a 20-something and I came from the 3 Gun world to F-Class because it looked cool as hell. But I had to do a lot of research and work to get to the point where I had the stuff to shoot a match, because I didn't have anyone to help me and my closest match was 2+ hours away. Many of the 3 Gun people I shoot with are also young guys that are really interested in playing the long range game, they just need the right push to start. If we got a little more cross pollination between the shooting sports, it would only be good news for everyone.

Larry if you look around the young guys are disappearing in shooting and hunting. Our state had to come up with a youth hunt because they lost that many junior hunters. There thought was get them interested before they get hooked on Video games and computers. You can take them out really young; they can't carry the gun and you have to be within arms length and they must buy a license which is about 2 dollars or so. They can hunt antlered deer, squirrels and turkey. Matt

My time limit reference was a suggestion. When I go to a match and someone shoot 10 shots in 15 seconds that is not skill it is all equipment. Do I want to play that game The answer is No.
I was suggesting something that would make skill win. Right now bench rest shooting is on a big decline. Most rim fire and center fire bench rest matches are way down.
With a time limit between shot mite help bring the shooting numbers up. It will not change who wins. Larry
Weight is another factor We as shooters should try to get more to our shoots

What World are you living in?

Butch, I believe the answer to your question is: "Obamas Socialistic Wonderland"

I think the antler restrictions didn't help in PA

Matt All I have work with is kids When I raced my pit crew was all kids. They built the car and done most of the work on it I had to get a relies form to get them in the pits. All my kids have hunted. My 3 grand kids hunt and shoot. Two months ago my middle grand child Alex a girl shot her first time at 1000 yds Her second 10 shot were 7.7inches. Yes we need to do something to get new shooters. If it is weigh or a time limit I don't care. The hard nose shooters don't need to shoot with them . But with their help we can only grow the sport. Thanks Larry

Well the deer overall numbers didn't help either. But they seem to be coming back. Its hard to get the young out. You just can't get near as many interested. Of course we lost about half a million adult hunters also. That is more loss then a lot of states have. I heard New York numbers are falling also. Matt

Everything is falling in NY, except taxes and dumb gun laws..

Betting your one time out to PA was because it is a Nationally recognized, sanctioned range and Matches.
How many from PA have been down there to Manatee?
What would get them to come?
What would get others to come as well?

My input/answer: - uniform format with uniform rules to other 600/1000-BR in your part of the country.
As it is now, your not sanctioned down there, and all you can hope for is local support - IMO

Would I myself come down there to shoot?
If it is not sanctioned...... NO, very unlikely <> unless you host a big event like the World and/or for $$$$.oo
If it was sanctioned and winter month matches .... YES, real good chance I would.

To me you folks in Florida have the perfect setting to draw people in.....
By holding Sanctioned matches in the winter months when most all the other ranges are in there off season.
What a great winter vacation that could be for the 47 states above you......

I went to shoot with a friend of mine that lives in Ohio. National matches mean nothing to me.I chased them all over raceing and shooting archery. I want to see how I would shoot against the best. If I hadn't cook a bullet to start I would of finished in the top 10. 19 on target will get you nothing.
Our range has made vast improvement in the last month. We now have a 600yd range and I have heard they are improveing the 1000 yd. I will find out Saturday. As far as matches they are a loss to the gun club . I don't feel that way but money income they are. The club gets $20.00 for non members and the rang is full. To put a big shoot on it take lots of help. We have 5 that are willing but that is not enough. Larry

Larry, if y'all have 600 and 1000 yard ranges at your club, that's a start.. Now somebody may have to step up the the plate for say 2 years, to get the "sanctioned" matches rolling. I know you are "getting up there in age" however, if you placed your best foot forward, I bet a few would help. Then once they see the others coming from "wherever" and it gets more interesting, others would eventually step up. Even our club, which is a very well established club, has to "lean on shooters" to help out. BUT to me it is worth it. Sooner or later "they" would recognize that same thing at your club and you would be off and running...

Yup being a match director for 1k br, I pretty much do all the paperwork and everything on my own. But everyone helps set up target frames, flags and misc. and our measuring crews are a couple of guys from each relay that are working the pits. So if everyone would help set up and tear down and you got someone to be the match director then it wouldn't be hard at all.

Dmoran, Larry,
Manatee would be a great placed to hold some matches in the winter. There are guys looking into getting affiliated with the PA club, their current 1k br matches are the same format that we use in Mt and Pa. The biggest problem I see is trying to gear thing toward the local shooters. They need to raise the cost of matches so it profits the club, I pay $100 to shoot a weekend match, 40 record shots on 4 targets (locals will balk). Build it and they will come, but don't gear it toward the local guys or nothing will change.

We are members and the club that is a non profit. Why should the members pay $100.00 to shoot a match. The club has taken our money for many of years. with nothing in return. They not only spent our money for supplies but charge the member the same price as the public. Any other club give members a break on shooting supplies.
When we had our gong shoot we returned over 50% to the shooters. I'm sure where you shoot it is the same. The club cares nothing about members all they want is the money.
We will never have a club with national recondition . Look at what happen to the bench rest shoots.

You say a national BR recognition is never going to happen there.
You say you are not into shooting a recognized national sanctioning (you did that with racing & archery)
So why do you want 17-lb guns w/o scope <> and <> 30-seconds between shots in sanctioned BR ?
And why are you stating BR is declining Nationally when it is not, but is at your local non-sanctioned range ?
What is it you are really after ?
It will never happen with our with our club the way it is being run. I shot ASA archery and raced in a pro series. I won in both so nation recondition means nothing to me.
The weight without scope is a way is a way of getting new shooters. the 30 second is also something that will help new shooters getting started. I'm a NBRSA member and their shoot are down the guys that shoot rim fire all over tell me they are down. The only thing I can find about IBRSA is the president said the were dong better. what that means you must know.
My self what I'm after is to try to get new shooter is the sport if what I suggested helps the try it. If you don't care then don't. Larry
