Getting tired of the equiptment race.

Larry saying that all ranges give members a break is totally not true. And also not all matches are $100. Our matches are pretty cheap at $35 for a one day match. Our club makes a little money on br but not enought to write home about. Our last match we went through about $70ish in just targets, so keep that in mind when you bash how much matches are. Plaques and targets aren't cheap.

Larry,
There will always be club shoots (gongs) that can be $10. But for the 1k br matches you have to charge enough money to pay for the range rental, targets, maintenance, ect. You will need a web site for the Manatee benchrest club, which should be separate from the range so you can post results and new shooters can go for information, currently no one knows your holding matches at Manatee. I don't see a problem with Manatee becoming a nationally recognized range. The volunteers are there, the quality shooters are there, the facilities are as good as anywhere I have seen, Range management may not care but they will once they make money on it and start seeing the club name in the press when someone shoots a record. I see no reason next year could not be the first full year of competition.

If you go back and read I said Clubs. Alex said they pay $100.00 I stated at our gong match pay back over 50% plus we gave Plaques as I feel is fair Please read before you point fingers.

Also Larry,
Every target is a "match". So if you pay 3 places for group and 3 places for score per match thats alot of money to pay out and if you dont charge enough the pots suck. I also should have pointed out $20 of that is a side bet for center shot (closest to center x per day wins). So its really $20 per match, so $40 per day and we shoot Sat and Sun, for a total of $80 for 4 matches. I spend more than that on ammo, gas, hotel, the match cost is the cheapest part.

I don't think changing rules will bring out the shooters, I could see different classes for youth and Savage shooters.. Sorry I had too.

We are members and the club that is a non profit. Why should the members pay $100.00 to shoot a match. The club has taken our money for many of years. with nothing in return.

The reason match fees are what they are is because you have to buy targets, pay the IBS, buy plaques and some places have a pit/target crew that they pay.

It will never happen with our with our club the way it is being run. I shot ASA archery and raced in a pro series. I won in both so nation recondition means nothing to me.
The weight without scope is a way is a way of getting new shooters. the 30 second is also something that will help new shooters getting started. I'm a NBRSA member and their shoot are down the guys that shoot rim fire all over tell me they are down. The only thing I can find about IBRSA is the president said the were dong better. what that means you must know.
My self what I'm after is to try to get new shooter is the sport if what I suggested helps the try it. If you don't care then don't. Larry

You state wanting rules changed to sanctioned 600/1000-BR....
And say part of the reason you want the new rules is because BR is declining.... and you got that info from "so in so" that told you the Rimfire-BR numbers are down all over the place. And you also say the NBRSA numbers are down and that your a NBRSA member.

What the hell does Rimfire-BR have to do with LR-BR ?
(let alone the LR-BR rules)

The closest NBRSA 600/1000 is like +2500-miles away from Florida, and is primarily a Western US sanctioning, so why do they matter?
(and especially when the NBRSA LR has had limited clubs/ranges since day 1... and since your a member I figured you would know about that)

The IBS 600/1000 has substantial growth in the the Eastern USA and is predominate in the states nearest Florida, but you make no reference to its growth.
(which is obvious to anyone that reads the results and schedules of the IBS-600/1000)

Both the Penn1000 (PA, MT) ranges just keep "ticking like clock work" with steady numbers year in and year out at the regular matches, with fantastic counts at there Specials (World and MT State), but you make no reference to them either.

I'm with Butch..... your way to negative and to much of a "used car salesman" to be a positive.
I feel sorry for those at Manatee who have to dredge through your negative voice. Especially when I hear that it is a nice place and has the potential to be a national sanctioned range.
I never stated I wanted to change any rules I was suggesting what I felt mite help getting new shooters It has nothing to do with the rules on regular shoots Please read what I said. The only negative I see is not from me . We have one of the finest cubs in the south east. Larry

Larry you say about the fees to shoot. At the WORLD OPEN we have to rent a tent for the vendors. We pay the pit pullers over 3000 dollars. Targets alone probably cost about $600.00. We feed everybody supper Saturday night and I have no clue what that costs. We give out somewhere between 20 and 30 thousand dollars in prizes. There are a few more costs that I don't know about. We have to charge what we charge. I am not sure how much it costs to shoot it this year. Some years we don't make hardly anything. We try to run one of the best shoots in the country and be fair to everyone. We also try to see that everybody has a good time. It is a pile of work to get all this accomplished. Matt

I'm well aware of the cost when We did our shoot we learn a lot how you done at yours the gun club agreed on $10.00 per day per shooter for rang fees our charge included lunch and drinks each day with ever thing we were able to do over a 50% pay back. With out attending your ours would of never went as good as it did. Thanks Matt. I hope some day we can join you and the Montana gun club with the same rules. A triple Crown Shoot. Larry

I will say at our club we pay back 50% at all regular matches. 25% leases the range and 25% to the club. The club then maintains it's equipment and supplies. We do a raffle each year, and somehow come up with +-$25,000 in prizes to give away at the annual championship. If you're lucky at drawings, or can shoot it's way better than 100% payback. We do charge more in August to help us replenish for the next year. No "club" is getting loaded here. Our membership IS our club. PA charges us nothing, and when Jim Richards shot a 2.6 in March it was in sanctioned match and means something. It's a great group of guys and I wouldn't change a thing.

Tom
Tom you got one of our best Alex will do everything he can do to help also. What we have going on maybe some day we will be able to join you. Larry

I may disagree with some Larry's opinions but the man has propably got more people into the sport than anyone I've met. He got most that shoot at Manatee into it, including me. I get so fired up over the situation there because I have been to quite a few ranges and know the potential Manatee has. With Tom, Mike, and Steve running matches Chris and Ken doing grunt work and Larry hooking new shooters I KNOW Manatee could be putting on the biggest shoot in the south east. I am aware of the obsticals in the way, but that seems to be changing. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next year.

Anytime anyone thinks shooting fees are TOO HIGH.....just possibly they need to consider the cost of real estate today for the possibility of building a new range and THEN.....upkeep thereof!! These are not the major issues however; rather finding the real estate that is compatible in the first place is the real issue and whether or not a club is buying or lucky enough to obtain a long term lease....well....that's still rather expensive!!
