I'm your local friend. Fear not, there's more of us than you might think. Or, you can compromise like Vanilla Bean, for fear of being lonely. We have elderly relatives who've become "progressive", even to the extent of having two pics of the current POTUS in their house. Pathetic. Understandable as one approaches the end of life I suppose, but pathetic. I told my wife we should bring over a picture of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan instead, but instead we just don't go to visit. Like you said Phil, it feels (and is) phony.

I wear a Mossy oak hat 90% of the time regardless of who's Standing or sitting across from me! My car has a Hoyt sticker on one side of the window and a NRA sticker in the other, I don't scrape it off no matter who's driveway I'm in...Why should I be ashamed of being a 2A practicing American?

Invite them to a morning at the range or skeet/sporting clays field. Have a good time and buy them a nice lunch afterwards. Who knows, you may make a new friend. For sure you will introduce the sport side of shooting and they may actually like it.

Go to the range if they will allow it. Try to hit off peak hours. Show them how the gun functions. Cover the rules of safe gun handling. You may find that they are listening VERY closely.

A .22 semi auto pistol or rifle and an old paint can can make a good starter if they decide they want to shoot. They WILL grin when they first connect with the target.

Knowledge counters mis-information. Personal experience will serve more benificial than in your face arguments. Many will be willing to learn and many will be willing to go "hands on" if given a chance in a safe environment.

There are several people I know who still states guns are dangerous and so on . . . anti gun individuals.

To date, none of them can explain how the gun harms people on their own and they do not won't an explanation otherwise.

Drunk Drivers need a vehicle, a knife needs a live hand, but a pistol/rifle operates on it's own.

I like Erik Cortina's explanation, I will have to remember that one.

I personally don't won't to live anywhere where only criminals own guns.

I know one policeman who is very happy a person with a CWP was near him while he was being attacked. This started over a traffic violation. The attacker already took the policemans pistol and if it wasn't for this person being there and armed, he (policeman) would not be here today.

I don't have many arguments as I don't have any friends who are "anti-gun".

So for those who do not compromise, speak their mind, etc. (nothing at all wrong with that), do you wear a NRA hat at a BBQ at your house where you have friends and family over? Even if you know some of those people will bristle at the sight of it? I know some of you do, and I am with you. How about at their house? Or in a neutral public place when with a liberal friend?

I wear my regular attire (usually NRA, gun, shooting or hunting related) everywhere I go. Many times if I attend a function where I know there'll be anti types, I really pour it on. Maybe that's why many tell me I am more and more like my father with each passing year. I am set in my ways, especially all things 2A.

How can I be friends with someone who holds values and acts in ways so contradictory to my own belief system and actions? This person votes, and the consequences of that vote are people who are in office that are destroying our ability to exercise our 2A right and freedoms.

I honestly can't say that I have any friends that are anti 2A. I do however tend to try to have dialogue with anti's that I know, basically like the saying goes: Want to confuse a Liberal? Use logic. (ie. educate, inform)I have been successful using that tactic to convert more than one anti 2A person.

I would get new friends. I do have family that is antigun and I do not talk to them. I have tried but they are button pushers and they will not listen to reason. So screw them I do not talk to them I will say hi but that is it.

Police protection is an oxymoron.

Free citizens must protect themselves.

Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

There are two types of antis; The ones who know only what they have seen on television about guns, and the liberals who hate guns and gun owners. I have swayed many of the former with common sense answers to their questions and a day at the range. The latter I have no use for and do not breath the same air. Regardless of whether they are friends or family, I chose to not share my time with those I deem intolerant. If they are liberals they probably disagree with me on a lot more than just the 2A.

The biggest fallacy of the premise, "Getting Along w/Anti-Gun Friends and Family", is that "you" (the meaning of you being your personage, your essence, your existence) cannot co-exist in the same space together.

It is YOU that must suppress your thoughts, not them. They do not refrain from belittling your opinions... why is that?
IT is YOU that has to filter YOUR speech, not them. They are not "careful" about what they say around you... why is that?

In order to "get along" with them, you must stop being you. They do NOT modify their behavior for you.

I tried it when I Was young, and, first, it didn't work, and second, I could not stomach myself when I acted that way.

YOU see, this is not about lack of information - I tried the whole thing about armed people like the Scandinavians, are free, and every free society that disarmed it's people, like Cuba and Hitler's Germany, became dictatorships... they didn't care.

The real problem is that the people that hate guns are the ones that see a future society that is run from a central place, with a groups of people that control the rest of society. The government will take care of us, and the police will protect us. So we don't need guns.

They never foresee the possibility of a situation where the "people" made a mistake and gave power to the wrong group... and couldn't get it back.

I try to be reasonable and explain about history and how it repeats . If the conversation goes south,I agree to disagree and shy away from idiots that think that the sole purpose of the police is to serve and protect.Actually they dont have to protect you as there job is to enforce laws.If you want real protection,carry a gun or big stick and dont go looking for trouble and stay out of places where there is trouble like bad neighborhoods and bars.I keep to myself and dont look for a fight and address the police with respect under all circumstances to avoid a felony here in new york state.Anti gunners are like flys they are everywhere and not smart enough to look at the true statistics in a discussion. They drank the koolaid and I avoid contact with as many as possible.
