Getting a new 6-6.5x47 Lapua... load help

Getting a new rig built. 7.5 twist for the 105-115 range of bullets.

What are some favorite loads ? Been told you can't beat 39 to 40 range of H4350 with the 105...

thanks all.

Scott

Hi SM,

Sorry I can't help with your Q but I have a quick one for you. If forming the brass as simple as running a 6.5x47 through a die to deck down?

Thanks and keep us posted with your build details.

yes it is.

A Forester Full length resize die does the trick.

Specs are:

Stiller Predator action
Stiller 20 MOA rail
Krieger 7.5 twist light palma barrel at 26'
Jewell HVR at 1.5 lbs
McMillan Classic stock
HS bottom metal
Cerakote black
NF NXS 3.5-15x50 R1

This will be a lighter carry rifle for coyotes, speed goats, whitetails here in Wyoming.

Thanks,

awesome build specs!

I'm in the processing of putting together my build. Actually largely inspired by your .243AI posted all over the forums! Ordered up a bunch of DTAC's and getting ready to get stuck into our red foxes!

Cheers,
Rath

Thanks a lot guys...

I'll let you know how it goes and when it is done.

what kind of Vel. are you getting with the R17 ? does it seem consistent from lot to lot ?

again thanks,

Scott

'what kind of Vel. are you getting with the R17 ? does it seem consistent from lot to lot.'
The vel. is running about 3100 for accurate loads. It seems to be consistent. The reason I say 3100 is different crony's and time of day seem to make + or - 50 fps.

39.9gr 4350 and 107 SMK's shot real well for me yesterday.
Hitting about 3080 from a 28' McGowen barrel.
.015 off the lands, New Lapua brass

Got some Berger VLD's to try next.

I have a 6x47 with a stiller action and a 26' Kreiger 7.5 twist barrel. I just got it back this past Saturday. I loaded up some 108's with 39gr of 4350 and new Lapua brass. My results were quite sporadic! One 3 shot group measured .069 and the next 4 shot group measured .457 I am not sure what to think. This was the first rounds down the new tube and the brass was virgin Lapua so i am chalking it up to that. anyway my velo was right at 3000fps or a touch more. Am i ok on Velocity of should i bump up my load? No signs of pressure at all!! I really dont know what i will try next, maybe some 115's or some 107's. What other powders are you guys shooting in your 6x47 other than H4350 and RE17. I dont like RE17 so i am not even going to try it. I think this rifle will shoot after i get it broke in. I just dont know what load to focus on at this time. It was throated for the 105's. Any thoughts?? Thanks Lee

I've had very good results with N160 in my 6x47s, with 105-115s. Tried H4350 early on, but wasn't happy with accuracy or velocity. Also played with Ramshot Hunter, and got good accuracy with 115s. However, N160 gives a little more velocity & somewhat better accuracy. I feel N160 is a little less temp. sensitive than Hunter, but the Ramshot line of ball powders is quite a bit better in this respect than most of the older ball propellants I've used.

On the twist rate - I've got one 8-tw & two 7.5-tw. bbls. on 6x47s, and shoot more 115s than any other bullet,s). The Bartlein 8-tw. handles the 115s,both Berger & DTACs) just as well as the 7.5s, and produces a little more velocity. IOW, I think the 7.5s are slight overkill, or a little tighter than needed for the 115s.

Here in Wyoming, I have to have the 7.5 to stabilize the 115.

The altitude / temperature threshold hits at about 27-30 degrees.

The 8 twist won't stabilize the 115's below this...

My new 6x47L shoots both the RL-17 and H4350. I was getting early pressures signs and slower speeds with the H4350. So, I plan to continue with the RL-17.
