6-47 Lapua 115gr load

Morning All!

I just got in a Lawton 6-47 Lapua, throated for 115's, 27" barrel w/ 7.5 twist, and I am curious as to what loads people with similar specs are shooting.

I am hoping to get RL-17 working nicely in it, since I have 10# on hand, with the 115 Berger VLD. I keep reading people having better luck with other powders, however they all seem to be running a 8 twist and I am hoping the 7.5 will help.

Thanks!

I shoot a 6-6.5 x 47 with a 7.5Twist and 115DTAC's.. I have 2 loads. 1.) 38.1grs of H4350 and 2.) 42.0grs of H4831. The H4350 load is very good BUT has "about" 15ft e.s. and is a bit hard on my brass. The "new" load of H4831 has consistent e.s.'s of 5-6ft BUT it is slower at 2975f.p.s. It is also very easy on my brass. When I get a chance, I am going to see if I can generate a bit more velocity with the H4831 BUT the case is pretty full as it is.. RL-17 should work nicely BUT I have no knowledge of it nor do I know of anyone using it.. But I am sure someone on here does and can chime in with their load..

38.2 gns of IMR 4350 in a 7.75 twist Bartlein 30" 5R using DTAC's. 39.5 gns of H 4350 with the Berger 115's. Both loads are very accurate. Work up to these as your results may be different from mine.

29.25" barrel, 8 twist, 115 DTAC's and 39.1g RL17 is my worked up load, which gives me 3030mv.

In the same rifle, I also use Berger FB 88's, with 41.8g RL17 and this gives me 3375mv.

These loads work in my barrel but you should work up to them, rather than jump in deep.

Sorry I have not revisited this thread but work has had me all tied up.

I got a load worked up @ 38.7gr Rl-15 w/ 115 VLD's yielding 3175 FPS with an ES of 10. I have only shot it out to 300 but plan on running it at 600 this weekend and will follow up later.

I went out this morning with a few "new" loads in my 6-6.5 x 47. I went from 42.0 to 43.0 to see if I could generate a bit more velocity, yet keep about the same accuracy. So far so good... I found a GREAT node at 42.8grs of H4831. The speed on that load is 3050f.p.s. I was shocked.. I did not think that just 8tenths of a grain would increase the velocity 75f.p.s.>>>BUT IT DID! The accuracy was just under an inch for 1 / 5 shot group. Now to take several 5 shot groups out to see if I can duplicate the accuracy. One thing though, the E.S.'s went from 5-6 ft to 12-13ft.>>>Still very acceptable... If that load continues to pan out, a 600 yard competition at Beaumont's "Golden Triangle Gun Club" will be in order in couple of weeks..

ShootDots, that's good news, I am going to try some 4831sc this weekend.

Do you mind stating what barrel length you are using?

Hi Covinth, I use a 30" barrel... I am really starting to think that with 115gr bullets, the slower powder might just be the ticket. There is little doubt that with 103-108gr bullets, H4350 is the go to powder..
