Garmin Xero Down Range?

Right, why would you want to set up your Garmin chrony out by a 1000 yard target????????
That's what was suggested. If you no the velocity by the muzzle, you should be able to use ballistic tables or calcutaions to figure out the rest, at any distance.

Ok, give me the ballistic coefficient of a 400 grain paper patched bullet out of a Sharps 44-90 BN. V0=2100 fps.

Getting back to the original post I just received my new Garmin a couple days ago and decided to test it out with my FX Panthera .25 cal air rifle. Shooting 33.95 grain JSB pellets. The first three shots were from the bench at 907 f.p.s. I then moved the Gamin down to 65 yards with a steel plate for protection. Got a reading of 707 f.p.s. My berm is at 80 yards from the bench. I kept moving the Garmin closer to the berm and shooting. Recorded all the shots till I had it only 2 yards from the berm. I moved it back to three yards from the berm and it started recording the shots again. That is catching only nine feet of pellet flight and giving me a velocity reading. The velocity at 77 yards was 700 f.p.s. Not sure if a faster flying projectile would give different results. I was surprised it still recorded that close to the berm. May have to try it indoors next.

Did some testing today indoors shooting a .177 air pistol. Velocity was 300 f.p.s. I kept moving closer to the pellet trap and was getting velocity readings only three feet from backstop. With any of the shots that were six feet or less from target the velocity numbers were down about 45 f.p.s. from normal. Looks like the accuracy was off being too close to the target. Perhaps a faster moving projectile needs the unit placed farther from the target and that is why Garmin recommends no less then 20 yards.
