Garmin chrono update

I have been seeing way too many people lately that are having issues with these not picking up shots. I think I am going to wait a little while longer before I decide to get one. Maybe that is the reason for the update

No problems with mine so far, I have tried it with rimfire, centerfire - 223 and 6BR as well as multiple grain pellets through my rifle's and pistols. Completely happy with mine. I have had them all and this one is the winner by a mile.

Most of the Missed shots I've read about were with the unit attached to the rifle.
I think partially blocked radar beam might be the issue.

Only time mine has missed a shot was due to the human pushing the buttons. You pick wrong velocity range and it will not read the shot. Was shooting muzzleloaders and they were faster than I anticipated. Missed one shot when I switched from 100 yard target back to 50 yards and the backstops are on either side of the range. Again, a human error not pointing it correctly.

I place my Garmin just behind the front rest. It is way behind the muzzle, much farther than the 15" recommended. The unit is also partially blocked by the front stand. It has never failed to record a shot. The little Garmin is just amazingly easy to work with.

They didn't say it wouldn't work, but if you want an accurate muzzle velocity reading, it needs to be that distance. The average is 10" and 10". The device is back calculating a muzzle velocity from readings it takes down range.

I'd be curious to how much difference the reading would be from moving the Garmin from 10" behind the muzzle to 20" behind.

Same as any ballistic app does. You calculate the ballistics at whatever distance your chronograph is at, then do an iterative process to calculate the ballistics at 0' (or close to 0 when the error is small enough).....................or just put the chronograph at the recommended distance. They didn't draw that little pictorial just for looks.

Thanks for the information about Garmin Express. It does show the changes on the new software.
Mine has never missed a shot.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to check it out. I'm still hoping they will add either swipe delete or a select all delete in the app like they offer for the export where you can select all sessions or a subset and export all as one excel.

I noticed in the app if you click on the unit, then on
app_updates_menu.jpg

you'll see the updates. Need to look before you update as this changes to 3.27 after.

....go ahead and wait, how many minutes ya got? I find if the unit drops shots, it's because I put it in the wrong position or bumped it so it's not facing the target, besides whatcha got that is even close to the ease of using this unit....where are you getting all these complaints?

By all means, go ahead and wait. You are just doing yourself a big disservice by doing so! Maybe, just maybe you will eventually buy a Garmin, then you will wonder why you listened to the few people out of thousands who love their Garmins.

There's a "gazillion" on the lines in benchrest shoots. The all work flawlessly. No need to even set up the little tripod. Just set it down.

Now I found out it can be stopped. Used one of those glitter magic markers to put my name on the back. Forgot that the back is the antenna/sensor location. That shut it down. Worked and erased my name. Works perfectly again.

by far the best chrono there is. Prone statges are hardly pick up other shooters shots as stacked in as they sometimes get us. As for missing shots the only time mine hasnt picked up a shot is fast firing but thats not on the chrono
