FX Mini Pocket Doppler Radar...Hidden Gem?

Hi All,
I recently started to jump into the PCP airgun world (for better or worse...still trying to decide). But I came across a mini Doppler radar from FX. Its $199 and from what I have seen its fantastic for rifles with < 1300fps velocities. I purchased one but haven't played with it yet....its tiny.

Just thought I'd share what I learned. Maybe others have experience with it, I would love to see how it works with my .22LRs.

Interesting - looks quite a bit simpler to set up than skyscreens of a conventional chronograph. There are times when I want to chronograph a new lot or grade of std vel match 22LR, but just don't have the time to set up one of my chronographs, or the wind's gusting around too much for the screens & diffusers to work well. Looking forward to hearing how reliable & accurate this little gem is...

I’ll give it a go tomorrow. I like the fact you never need to get in front of your muzzle, it always sits behind. Suppose to work for archery as well. I’ll post an update after I give it a try.

AI,
WOW! Thanks! Utah Airguns has them in stock and I ordered one tonight. I've been using a LabRadar for the past 3 years and have very positive opinions of this unit, but I want something smaller, lighter, more convenient to get a quick MV. It is limited to 1300 fps but that'll work perfect on match and target 22rf. This will be interesting!

I have one and use it on my airguns. It works just as described. I haven't compaired it to my Labradar to see if it is spot on, but going on where my gun was before it was right there. I haven't tried it with my rimfire or archery yet. I just sit it on the bench under the barrel of my gun, point it down range and it usually works great. Only thing I have found is sometimes i have to get it up closer to the barrel for it to pick up 100% of the time. So i will just set it on a piece of a 2x4 and it works all the time.

What, no news or bad news? I’m ready to buy, just want someone to say, it works with .22lr.

Sorry, been very busy with other stuff. I’ll have a more detailed post next week, but don’t hesitate to buy one...it works great with 22lr! Worked with standard and high velocity to 1280 or so. Needs to be placed fairly close to the barrel (behind it a bit as well). Easy to do with a small flexible tripod or just a few blocks stacked. I also attached it to my barrel and it worked perfectly with very little, if any POI shift. It’s a great product and super easy to use, especially if you need a very accurate measurement and don’t want all the trouble of the LabRadar or Optical Chronys. Enjoy!

Ditto on the Utah Airguns, I ordered mine two weeks ago Monday got it Fed-ex in a couple days. I've only had time to use it and gather data twice but have to say with the vintage single shots I shoot, it's slick. Used it for my 22rf and my 50-90 worked well and I didn't have to drag out the LabRadar just to confirm a load when I changed lots.

Just got this from FX USA. I had inquired about using for RF and availability. Here's what they said:

"Thank you for reaching out to us with your question.
The FX Pocket Chronograph is simply designed for use with pellet rifles with a recommended maximum of 1100 fps. There is no guarantee that it will or will not work with rimfire cartridges going the same speeds. We have had customers report using it with 9mm handguns with success as well as some customers with rifles like you have described with success.
Please refer all in stock inquiries to the dealer of interest.
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns."

Gene,
For my testing with 22rf and the 50 I'm using the "Airgun High Power" and it's working fine. The loads I use in the vintage single shots stay around 1200 fps or less generally. I may get out and try a few different calibers tomorrow, if it happens I try to post my findings.

Did some shooting with SK Standard + ammo today, results were very good with the radar. Needs to be pretty close to the barrel to get consistent reading. Used some Aguila High Velocity and it was too fast to register.

great for subsonic work. No missed readings with Standard +. Also worked great with my PCP air rifle.

Did anyone that bought one of these get the tripod adapter? Mine came with the barrel adapter only. The USA dist. said they won't be coming with that adapter and they can't order one. Would really like to get my hands on one.
