Funding has stopped

Mike in Oregon

Gold $$ Contributor
As some of you know all my funding has come through overtime and working my weekends for the past several years. Overtime has come to an abrupt halt for the first time in 30 years.

I'm 9 months away from retiring and X-amount of dollars away from being completely setup with top shelf guns & equipment. I'm sorta stressed out, but I can't control the topic. On the bright side, I get my weekends back with my wife and family, and I can do my weekend chores once again.

To my two debtors on AS, no need to worry. If needed, I will go work the street corner. I got you!

Bad timing, to say the least.

Hate to say it, but perhaps you'll have to look into a second job temporarily to fund your hobby?

That is a question that should answer your commitment to the hobby, for sure.

I wish you well, whatever your choice.

It's not that I don't have funds, it's simply the way I intended to do it. Thank you for your comment though.

Things will work out.
Finding the funds when retired is definitely challenging. Makes you more appreciative . I would bet your health gets better when the work environment goes away.
Will take a while for the habits to change.

Good luck

I just retired two months ago. It's a big shift moving from saving to spending.

I'm not too worried though...my financial advisor said I could spend as much as I wanted and that I would never run out of money. As long as I don't live more than 19 months ;)

Mike, as one who owns a business and has to make the decision as to how much overtime can be justified in relation to the workload, I can sympathize with your problem.. .
Our standard work days are 9 hours Monday through Thursday and 8 hours Friday and Saturday. For years now, Saturday is just another work day.

We warn our employees about basing their lifestyle on overtime pay. They really should budget for the standard 40 hour week and look at those overtime hours as a bonus.

If you don’t mind saying, what is your occupation.

First off, I'm not in financial difficulty. I do not live beyond my means as suggested. To fund this sport both the wife and I agreed for me to do OT to offset the budget. We also agreed that all holiday pay and shift differential go to the fund as well. So, we decided to put all OT, holidays and shift differential on mid-months check. This is how I was getting back into the sport. As mentioned, I'm retiring in 9 months. We have set ourselves up and prepared for this for 30 years. We'll be fine sir.

She is retired with 30 years with the DOC and I will go out with 31 years.
