FTR Bipods

I will be shooting FTR next season and would like suggestions from some FTR guys. I have limited experience with a bipod (I own 2 Harris). I have read all the details from the sites of the “top” manufactures, but would like your input about the bipods you use or have used. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the links Jdne. At the moment, the Duplin and Tier One have caught my eye. There’s a fair amount of review on the Duplin in those links. It also appears to be slightly lighter. The Phoenix is a beast and looks to be the most used by the top shooters. While I do have the funds for a Pheonix, I don’t think it’s practical to mount a $500 bipod to a savage based rifle. Since I mentioned funds and some will ask why I don’t have a better rifle.... I just had a FO rifle built and my 15 yr old son took up interest in the sport, so I gave him that rifle. I had a Savage LRP collecting dust, so I rebarreled it to 308 so I could shoot FTR. The rifle shoots well with the Harris, but there are obvious reasons they aren’t used in competition (tracking, or lack of).

I had a rempel i shot with for a while, it was good, but those that adjust at the bottom with the worm gear I felt lacked with follow up shots readjusting.

I bought a joypod, but havent used it yet.

The mpod is certainly light and looks sturdy, but I haven’t read many reviews on them in competition. I don’t know if there’s just not much info or shooters just don’t use them.

I shoot a Phoenix Bipod. You won't regret spending the money if you buy one and shoot with it a few times. I would trend away from a flexpod if you shoot on anything other than grass. Just my personal opinion. I'd make you a deal on a flexpod if you want to try it though. Also don't knock the Savage, mine will shoot through the same hole all day if I do my part. You can always look at the Berger SW Nationals equipment list to see what everyone shoots http://www.bergerbullets.com/SW_Nationals/2018-swn-equipment-list-ftr.pdf .

I find the phoenix tracks better, i feel the swivel skis are a big help for uneven mounds, the gear on the phoenix doesn't move unless you want it to
Thanks for the info. The common review to the adjustable bipods is that the Pheonix holds its adjustments. I guess the burden of whether it’s worth the extra $150 is on me. Buy once, buy right. Wheeler’s endorsement of the FlexPod is tempting. If it shoots well off cowshat, it’s gotta shoot good off of a pad or grass.

.223 is a different deal, much more forgiving. Harris works fine.

.308 is much more sensitive to bipod issues.

All FTR is not the same. Specify .223 or .308 if you want the best advice.
