FT-R rear bag help

The bag in the picture was a protector, and was a loner to me. I have a similar size bag with some lightweight material on the inside that is far worse.

I got behind the rifle last night and had my wife measure the distance between the toe of the stock and the floor where I felt the most comfortable. It was 1 1/2" to 2 1/2"

Where am I to measure the width of the toe of the stock? At the very bottom of the toe it is about 3/4".

You will probably go through a few bags before you find one you like.

Don't worry about your buttstock taper. IMO, you want some. More importantly, before McMillan developed the Xit stock, Derek Rodgers used a McMillan Prone stock (about the same taper as yours) to win a National Championship and set the previous 1000 yd National Record.

The prone stock was the starting point to design the XiT. However, the prone rear is more angled than the XiT. The XiT was designed specifically to ride a bag but have some taper to allow for elevation adjustment as you move the rifle forward or rearward.

I think I’ll go with the
Dr. Rear Benchrest/Long Range Bag with Carry Handle from Protecktor. The ability to make fine elevation changes by sliding the rifle makes sense to me.

If you have measured the toe at a depth, Then i would ask protektor about the Dr. Rear Benchrest/Long Range Bag with a 2/12 base. Here is a few more pictures showing the rifle sitting in the middle of the butt to provide stability and to avoid the toe catching on the bag and disturbing the recoil of the rifle. A couple of top tier shooters with different bag set ups James Croft tall Kevin Chou low. (you can always add boards spacers to a short bag) not true for tall

If you have measured the width of the butt to be 3/4 go with 3/4... the rule of thumb is that you should have 1/8 more spacing then the rifles width; the rifle should ride on the base of the bag and not on the ears. (some prefer riding ears) I find, riding ears the bag has too much energy and wants to spring back or try to close to its natural resting place. As you can imagine that is not conducive to good vertical.

All,
I called Protektor yesterday and gave them the dimensions of my stock, how far off the ground the toe was and the shape of my stock. To my surprise, the gentleman on the phone talked me out of the higher priced Dr. model and sold me the 1 inch shorter Deluxe Bumblebee model.
