Frustrated !

Kind of off-topic, kind of not.
Coming out of the store the other day and pass by a Wounded Warriors (or some charitable organization of the type) kiosk. A lady asks if I will donate and I said "Sorry, I gave at the office". I actually had zero cash on me at the time. She asked if I was prior service and I replied that I was. She asked what branch and I replied Navy, 17 years. She asked what I did while a couple of the other volunteers sidled in. I said CVN68 followed by 12 years in Coastal Warfare. Holy hell.... She lit up and asked what my BUDS class was, which team was I claiming, if I had a trident she could see. I just left, seeing where this was going.
Not Special Warfare, never was, never claimed. I am glad to have made her and her friend's day thinking they had exposed a Stolen Valor candidate. One more glory-seeking organization not getting my support. My volunteer hours go to the veteran's home. There are some real troopers there!

Please dont refuse support because of one busybody volunteer. Its not part of the organization’s policy to act like that. You should have asked her if she was aware that 99.9% of the navy didnt go thru buds

Well, I was in basic at Jackson during Nam and that story was correct except the discs were metal and the bb guns had no sights. Theory was instinct shooting at close range quickly. Frustrated me do no end I never hit one. We had kid from NYC said he never shot a gun until basic who seldom missed, drove me crazy. So before you critize someone be sure you know the facts. That was with D-5-1.

I did the same at Camp Pendleton in 1969 while going through Staging Battalion. Next stop , RVN. It was a transition from KD training with M-14's to point and shoot with both eyes open and M-16's.

I may fit into that category! I was telling a friend that I could bust at least 50% of the clays on a bad day. He brought his electric thrower out to the field and we started shooting. After about 100 I quit, all pissed off, because I didn't bust a single one. But neither did he. WHY?

These were a couple boxes I had out in an unheated metal garage for a few years. They had collected moisture. When we went out and looked at some of the ones we shot at, they all had multiple holes but didn't break. I took a pellet rifle and fired at a couple 3' away and it just made holes.

I understand the frustration. I have been there too.

A former college of mine once explained the stubbornness of people who make amazing claims. He said: You can never convince someone using rational argument to change a position that they did not arrive at using rational argument.

Crazy deal here in a Texas county sheriff's election. Both candidates were found to have committed "Stolen Valor". Both stayed in election, saying they would withdraw if they won. As of today, the guy who won has not withdrawn. That is so sickening. One went so far as to award himself a Silver Star and Purple Heart.

I spent 2 tours in I Corps in a rifle company and my son's only know I was in the Army.
Combat soldiers just want to forget.
This made me puke, what scum bags

We get the young kids who are all sniper wannabes laying prone as flat as they can get shooting 25yards then bragging about group size. Not a one will ever venture to the 200 or 300 yard line, they all brag about their custom built rifles shooting dime size groups but wont shoot not one match with us ever.

Knew a pilot who claimed he was a carrier pilot in Vietnam, punched out twice, multiple missions, had three military trainer aircraft including an eastern bloc jet emblazoned with his call sign. Had a website, starred at air shows. Kept up the charade for years until someone on one of the bases we used to fly in to did some investigating. Turns out, it was all fake. It's been years ago but I'm still trying to figure out that one.

The other day there was some idiot on here that told us, "in basic they trained us to go to Vietnam by throwing up plastic discs and letting us shoot at them with BB guns"....good god yall!!!!

Hmmm. . . so??? Well . . . this "idiot" (me) had that same training in 1967, only it wasn't plastic discs, it was metal discs (like the electrical box knock outs). It was one of the fun things at Basic.

Best do some research on an experimental training program called "Fast Kill" Daisy actually marketed it to the public under the name "Fast Skill" was developed to train instinctive close range shooting.

Too far for the younger guys to walk, and Uber doesn't like going to gun ranges.

The training frustrated a lot of guys. For me, it wasn't a new thing as I used to do the same thing a lot when I was a young kid. So, being somewhat of an arrogant ass then and also seldom missing the discs that were provided, I had a dime in my pocket and boasted to my partner that I could easily hit it. Well, I did. . . on the third try. Now, the eye's aren't so sharp and I'd probably be lucky to hit a Frisbee.

You guys with stories heard at the rifle range are going to the range for all the wrong reasons. Just go there with the intent to shoot and not listen to stories and you’d all be better off. I just don’t get into those conversations and walk away from any before the crap gets too deep, which is about 10 seconds. I guess I just have thin skin.
I don’t tell combat stories and I don’t listen to their combat lies.

I think I hate you, lol.

Oh I feel ya. They drive me nuts.
The other ones that twerk my nerves are the ones who dress up like soldier and want to play soldier yet didnt have the balls to be a soldier.
I love it when those guys start running there pie holes. lol

Got a guy right across the street from me like that. Keeps talking Army, Army...
I asked him how long he served. Response? 1 yr. My next question... what kind of a discharge did you get? Honorable..
( How do you get that with one year of service?) All BS...

Bingo!
My range demeanor would be described as “semi anti-social”. The mission is to punch the holes, pack up and leave. Sorry to say it, but nearly everyone at public ranges (and yes, many private ones) are either idiots or overbearing know it alls.
