what would you guys do?

aside from the larger centerfire cartridges, i have a big interrest in small wildcat stuff like the 5mm craig.
i have had a gunsmith holding my rifle for over 2 years. he can't get it right. i sent him my 591 for a new barrel but with a threaded action rather than pinned. he said no problem and 2 years later and a crap load of emails he keep putting it off . what should i do? just contact the atf and pressure this guy or what. if anyone in in washington state and would be willing to go get my gun for a nominal fee and send it back to me i'd appreciate it. i am in pa so driving out there isn't an option. i have lost all patience.
sorry for the rant but i am looking for help.

ATF has nothing to do with it.

If he is local, go get it - or tell him to return it. If he has started it and not finished it, file a small claims law suit.

You might contact Better Business Bureau, but I have found that they are not very effective.

What would I do? I sure as heck would not have shipped a rifle clean across the country for smithing. Especially when there are plenty of good smiths in PA from what I hear.

Tell the guy you are DONE, no more talking, send me my rifle right now, goodbye. If he doesn't, the local sherrif's dept. or city police in his area would probably be happy to assist you.

Amen on BigDMT's post. WD

I'd avoid direct contact with the gunsmith and post on a forum full of free legal and social counseling. Which, by the way, is worth exactly what you paid for it.
Seriously, call the gunsmith and demand that your rifle be returned.

LOL. Those were my initial thoughts too.

I would send him a registered/certified letter saying what you have said here in a business-like way, and ask that he immediately return all of your property, be specific. If he still doesn't respond, then call the local sheriff's department & tell them the story. The ceritfied letter is evidence that you have requested that your property be returned, as would be any other correspondence, shipping receipts, etc. When a deal starts to go bad, it needs to be handled in writing & be very business-like. Don't get abusive on a phone call & certainly not in writing, but when you write him, you can give him a reasonable time in which to return your property & tell him you will turn the matter over to the sheriff if he doesn't comply.

I would definitely post the name and address of this "gunsmith"... no reason for others to get sucked in to this black hole.

Get on a plane and go get it. Washington State has some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Make a vacation out of it. Take a week and see the sites. You won't be sorry. Plus you would get your gun back. I'm serious!!

PS I was there two years ago (Kettle Falls). I took an ATV ride up a mountain and came upon a sign that I have never seen anywhere and anywhere since. It said.... You're welcome to hunt. Just follow the regulations.
