Front rest

Go for the grizzly then add a Shadetree Top down the road. Better investment all a round......................

Joe Cowan's rest are no longer available. Joe retired when the leftist school said he wasn't allowed to produce the rest anymore and use the funds for that program anymore.

I just found this out. Sad, they were nice rests and supported a great program.

I guess I should be happy that I have mine

Look at---Caldwell Fire controlled rifle front rest
About $200.00 on sale
Its a "Joy stick" type of rest
Its definitely an "ENTRY LEVEL REST"

Look for at Midsouth, Natchez, Midway
I saw one at the range a few months ago. The guy let me try it. What an absolute piece of garbage. It embarrassing to sell something so horrible.

As a guy who has and still is using a Caldwell Rock rest (the triangle type base)

I implore any first time rest buyers, that are going with an entry level option, to get a slingshot or Y type rest.

My caldwell has been adequate, but it would be a whole bunch better if it had a more sturdy base under recoil. The poorly designed triangle base is the only reason I have held off on getting a shadetree top. I need to find a better base.

After I returned from RVN, I had about a five year fling with AR's, built some F/A shorties and had some fun along the way (running jackwabbits on the high desert). After a year in country, then five years dinking about with them, I now have zero interest in them, consider them a money-pit and have concentrated my efforts towards precision bolt guns. As I only shoot hair/fur and no competition at all, the front rest setup I use has been an evolution of different rests and rear bags over that time frame.

My 'final solution' has simply been a Sinclair All-Purpose Front rest with adjustable forend width, Super Feet under the rest pins to protect my bench top, and a Protektor #13B rear bag. Nothing fancy, reasonably priced, all made in the USA and no ChiCom crap involved, and it seems to still be working as planned since 1997.

In this pastime we all enjoy, the choices in both rifles and gear is daunting, only money stands in the way of doing whatever one can dream up. My choice is by no means the panacea, but it's worked for me and that's all I care about. Carry on, HTH.

Hart pedestal rest with leather Protektor bag. I'd avoid anything Caldwell.
The Caldwell BR slingshot base is fine but the top is garbage. Replace with a DR Greenlaw top, add a speed screw to the rear and you will have a front rest that rival's a Sinclair competition rest for less money.
