Front rest

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
Just getting into F Class OPEN. I need a front rest. I tried sand baga, but was constantly having to adjust elevation.

My issue is that after building this rifle, money is tight. I looked at the Caldwell Rock for $90 - $110. Not crazy about it though.

Any suggestions that don't cost that of a SEB? I don't see anything used for sale either.

Look at---Caldwell Fire controlled rifle front rest
About $200.00 on sale
Its a "Joy stick" type of rest
Its definitely an "ENTRY LEVEL REST"

Look for at Midsouth, Natchez, Midway

You don't say what your budget might be but I was looking at the Sinclair rests on Brownell's site today. Not cheap but not SEB money either. Way better than anything by Caldwell.

If you get a Bald eagle rest, you can upgrade to a shadetree top when you get some extra cash.

If you can swing it,

Seems like that would be in his budget friendly $200 budget…..if he put it on Layaway for Xmas. Sorry Pat, but i couldn’t resist. lol

A bald eagle with a Shadetree top is a great setup. I still have two as backups to our main front rests. That setup is still going to be north of $600 all day long.

Isn't FTR shot off a bipod?.....Maybe consider starting there while you save the $ for the " Buy Once, Cry Once" equipment that is a lot more fun to use. The initial investment into these games is definitely prohibitive to furthering the sport. I just saw a used rest selling for over 3K once shipped......Only 3 years ago I bought the same model for 1500 and sold it to a friend for 1300 the next season......It's too bad this situation has gotten so out of hand, especially among each other.......Rant Over.....Sorry...

Regards
Rick

This is in the classifieds.

Easy enough to ditch the cable and make a std windage control on the Triangle Grizzly
They are not bad for a starter set and at that sale price easy to get your $$ back when you move on

The standard readily available choice is the Bald Eagle / Grizzly. Ditch the cable adjuster immediately and do the direct windage mod.

The other great choice is the Cowan rest, but those are more limited in availability. They come out whenever they get a batch done at the school. I like mine a lot and like that they support the kids in the program.

Joe Cowan's rest are no longer available. Joe retired when the leftist school said he wasn't allowed to produce the rest anymore and use the funds for that program anymore.

This is what I purchased as my first bench rest last year. So far using for my 22 on a bench, and yet to try the feet for prone. Removed the cable and the adjustments are smooth. But I would get a protector front bag, as the BE doesn't provide separate ear vs bottom stand adjustment. Works well so far.
