Front rest: triagle -vs- slingshot

For my purposes and finances a Bald Eagle is on my radar. I don't shoot competitively and just need a front rest for working up varmint loads. Will only use the rest from a bench.

For those who've used similar equipment: which footprint would you suggest?

Edit: I know how to spell "triangle" but apparently can't type the word!

We're talking personal choices here so the answers may vary. The slingshot Bald Eagle is not as stable, side to side, as the 120 degree leg configuration. The sling shot was made originally by Bill Gebhardt for those situations where the bench was narrow and one had to hug the edge of the bench a little more. You can have the best of both worlds with a regular 120 degree leg style and then drill and tap one of the front legs- left leg for the right handed or right leg for the left handed shooter - about four or five inches from the end then run a "fourth" screw through that leg and get closer to the edge of a narrow bench. This is not my idea as Bill did this with some rests years ago and I have one of those models.

What's your opinion of the steel based Bald Eagle for the price ?
Is it adequate for a beginner or do we need a more expensive rest ?
thanks

I got the BE Slingshot a while back and it is perfect for my needs...Just shooting from the bench to sight in. I got the cast iron model and it's more than stable!!

In my opinion the basic three legged front rest is all you need. You may or may not need the windage top, depending on your shooting style. I would think the beginner would like the windage top. The beginner should not get all wrapped up in the gadget race; most of that window dressing is exactly that, window dressing.

I have an original cast iron Slingshot. I have had the aluminum one but prefer the heavier cast iron one.

I've got the Aluminum sling shot BE. I've use it for both bench load development and FClass matched and haven't had any stability issues.
