Front Rest Recommendations for Load Development

I am not a competition shooter. I only use a front rest for load development and zeroing. I bought a Caldwell front rest. Nothin fancy but works for what I do. In the rear I do have a pretty good bag made by that company that makes the nice leather sand filled bags with ears. I also had the woman sew me up an elbow pad, cuz my elbow gets sore on the concrete benchs we have here.
I have used this combo like forever. I had to replace the pad on the Caldwell as I wore it out. Also had to replace the leather on the bottom of the rear bag.
I also only use a benchrest for load work and some zeroing. I also have one of the Caldwell rests, one of the first versions that they put out. It was a heavy long range version, if I remember correctly. I wish I could remember what they called it. While it has worked for a while, it may be that I am discovering that it is not quite enough rest for even my use.

Speaking of rests, why do things like this exist?:

What are these?

There have long been front and rear rests, well before I ever saw these.

I am a fan of the old Bald Eagle myself. I have used one for 25 years, no joystick. For developing loads and isolating many of the issues that came from the load. After that, knowing the load shoots, I work on skills.
