Front Rest Question

FWIW, Funds are always a sensitive issue, but that is not the over riding factor regarding my selection on a front rest. I began this search thinking I could swap out the Shadetree top and be done with it. After too many years of buying something that will 'function', I had decided that 'just good enough' wont cut it any more.
Right now I'm considering the Randolph, Model 1200 & the Model 2400 front rests. Any thing else I should be considering in the $1,100 to $1,400 dollar range?
The $1,100-1,400 puts you in the range for a SEB Mini X up to a SEB Neo. Trust me, I have been down the road before. You can spend $1,100-1,400 on a SEB now or you can spend $2-3,000 on other rests until you finally decide to cut your losses and buy the SEB. I had a Shadetree top as well. It doesn’t come close to comparing to the SEB Mini that replaced it.

If a coax rest isn’t your thing that does change things.

There’s a SEB Mini in the classifieds right now for $800. If you can snag it, that would be a good place to start. If you decide it’s not for you, you can resell it and get every bit of your money back.

Personally I’d stay away from Seb Mini. It’s a very nice rest but for F class the mariners wheel for coarse adjustment versus the side wheel on the Neo just doesn’t compare. The side adjustment is so much more convenient. At these price points it’s all about the little things. I know a lot of guys like the Mini and I have one sitting on the shelf collecting dust. No it’s not for sale, I keep it for a light weight travel rest.

I currently own a Caldwell Rock BR Competition front rest with a Protektor custom 3" square ear slick silver bag installed that I picked up used for $100.

My question is do I sell it for a Protektor #61 Windage Aluminum Rest, or scrap the top on the Caldwell and purchase a Shadetree joy-stick co-axial rest top?

My current (used) set up seems to be working just fine, but I've had a terrible case of 'upgrade fever' that has been gnawing at me ever since I built (and received) my 1st F-Class rifle a few months ago.

FWIW, my rifle build is as follows: BAT M action with a 20MOA rail, Krieger 30" MTU barrel with a Kelbly MB. This was installed in a McMillan Kestros stock. Jus scratching the surface on load work up but I had a 3 shot group with it that measured 1.75" center to center at 600 yards. Caliber is 300WSM.

TIA Stu.

I shoot the Caldwell base Shadetree top combination in short range BR with good results. Your Caldwell top is on "backward" for right handed shooter - is that by design?

No, I set the rifle up on a table/rest in order to run a rod down the barrel with no regard for proper orientation.
