Francis Scott Key Bridge, Baltimore Md.

Hopefully there's someone thinking and a barge crane is on its way and crews lined up to cut it in to manageable pieces and get it out of the way. So far haven't heard any news on that part of the disaster.
From this standpoint, it looks like the politicians/highway people are sitting on their thumbs.

Reports are they have found at least two vehicles in the water.
Probably the construction vehicles that were on the bridge when it collapsed.
They do have to get through the recovery phase before starting to work on removing debris. There are 6 or more people that are missing and presumed dead.
Remember it is still early on in the process.

Talked to a Client that is a ship captain in that area. The talk among the pros is that the ship lost propulsion and they were able to start the emergency generators to get power to go hard rudder over to one side and got the left anchor deployed. Don't know if this is true but my client is a pro. His take is that without the main engines with ship that size the crew were just passengers no matter what they did.

Don't know what is true. He sails out of that area. He's a pretty matter of fact guy.

I think it may be that they reversed, maybe on restart, and the odd stern angle is exactly like what happens in a canoe, with a strong backstroke while moving forward.

Nothing like cranes, bridges and egg shells to show just how necessary the intended load distribution must be precisely maintained.

IF it was contaminated fuel, they would have to empty the tanks, or run it through a recirculation loop to filter out contamination, depending on what it could be. Even if they pumped the tank out, they would need some degree of cleaning, or an in-line means to remove debris, such as a centrifuge. If it was water contamination, a diesel that large will run for a bit using up what fuel is in the system; start loading it up and reach the point of mostly water and no diesel the engine shuts down.

And IF it was contaminated fuel, it would have affected the primary and secondary filters. If it was bad enough to get further in the engine, then you could be looking at fuel pumps and injectors. Lead times on those are pretty long.

However, there should have been sensing / monitoring for fuel issues while the engines were running. But,…

No idea what fuel they are running, but through the years I’ve seen “bunker C” run in marine and plant applications. It’s some nasty shit. I wouldn’t use it in anything I personally owned and had to repair or maintain. But it is cheap(er), and you have to be very diligent in changing filters or cleaning the centrifuge screens.

A typical cargo ship like this has one main propulsion engine, for this size vessel, it would be a 50 to 60 thousand horsepower Diesel.
Keep in mind, if the prop is not producing thrust, the rudder really does not work very well, as it works by deflecting water flow from the prop.
A very undesirable configuration from a reliability/safety perspective when maneuvering in narrow channels. The failure of either the single main propulsion and/or hydraulic systems turns a >50000 ton ship into an uncontrollable battering ramo_O!

When Biden said the government would pay for it right off the bat, that pretty much sidelined them until Uncle Sam the Disaster Repair Man gets onsite.

As mentioned above, Biden announced he's writing a blank check courtesy of the American citizens.

So no worries.

He also said he'd passed over that bridge on a train many times.

Bridge had no track on it but....... you know. Minor detail.

'Better to remain silent and be thought foolish than to speak and remove all doubts.'

Or not.
I suppose the shipping company has no insurance ?

Very bad situation for sure. $15m/ day loss.
Vessel has over a million gallon of fuel in it
What about the “pilot?” Wander why his picture has not been all over tv?

Bidens Infrastructure...push. Now he is giving you the reason why. You will never know what happened. Even a House committee will not know. Millions of jobs created. I can hear it now. Middle class jobs..vote Biden.
The first thing they stated was that the FBI believes it was not terrorist related.... and this was the next morning. So we're to believe that all of the family member's of the crew had their bank accounts and their activities investigated, however long back they need to go in order to really confirm this. Oh, but if they had their families threatened by some random country, let's say CHINA, we knew that wasn't a possibility as of day break too... or maybe that Biden just doesn't consider that terrrorism... maybe terrorism is only committed by the law abiding citizens, school parents and ISIS?.

Biden doesn't care if this was a terrorist attack via the crew being paid or under duress or some cyber attack. This bridge just became his greatest campaign Event/Distraction. The only thing that would make the democrats happier at this point is if ISIS slaughtered a bunch of us here in the states... then they could campaign against guns, which is their favorite tragedy to exploit and raise money for in the first place.

I don't know anything specific, but I know that the Abwehr was wreaking havoc here during WWII. They were causing massive industrial sabotage, aka accidents. Yeah the ship had a crappy record of inspections and problems... are people planning something going to pick a ship that has the greatest history of passing every inspection? But we'll never know unless some whistle blower comes forward, cause right now this is a campaign event.

Wow. When do you manage to sleep, what with so many conspiracy theories intertwined in your mind?
