it's just about only 2 years old now and making money.....

Francis Scott Key was a slaveowner and and therefore the dreaded 'racist', don't ya know. (they can find racism in absolutely anything and everything). But, only evil can come from a bridge named after a white racist. So. let's blame whitey. At the very least that bridge must be named after a black man. How bout George Floyd?

Doesn’t New York Harbor require a Tractor Tug


On the Gulf Coast, Bay Houston, which is what used to be the old G&H towing service, has sort of a controlled monopoly on handling ships all along the Gulf Coast. I figure their Rates are pretty much in line with Moran’s, who has a similiar deal with the New York Harbor Authority.

As wildcatter noted, nothing is cheap about any of this. Add to that more ports are requiring what are called “tractor Tugs”, which feature huge 360 degree propulsion units under the vessel that enhance the maneuverability of high horsepower tugs immensely.

Is the cost of having tug assistance necessary? Ask the Key Bridge.
As I said Jackie, no I don't know, even though I have paid for training to obtain a tow endorsment on my USCG Lisence. I don't even have any idea the costs for these vessel's alone to use these ports are. But I am sure there road tax is far more than ours!

I am not singling out any one member. I just know it ain't as simple as throwing one tug on ship this size, and the accident chances are eliminated, that ain't happening.

But I do belive the millions it would cost to have a guard system, to protect these bridges, and port entrances,much like we have on hyway systems. Is a much better and cheaper option in the long run.

I just got so sick of the few first pages of consperacy theorists that I see everywhere anymore. This follows with those condemning and ready to castrate folks without even a clue of what they are even talking about. They can't even imagine how or what it takes to maneuver a ship this size.

But it's not just this incident, it's anything in life anymore, and most are more dangerous to society than the events they condem without a clue to the facts! Conspiracies are our biggest threat to our nation today, and I probably over responded, but it's so rampant today. My apologize,

I’ve experienced it firsthand for a number of years in emergency response, I’m objectively in the mental health arena, but get tasked with a lot of difficult things related to major events, mass casualty events, natural disasters, transit or other industrial accidents.
On one hand it’s nice to be able to route folks to an elderly person stuck on their 2nd floor of their apartment after a hurricane who needs insulin badly now, or consoling someone who just lost a dear loved one, and 10 minutes later you may get someone just screaming at you that you’re the actual antichrist because of some insane thing they read on the internet, and I’m going to hell because the bodies aren’t real and I’m the worst person ever, and they’re going to find where I live.

Some folks just make conspiracy their entire personality and can’t make it through the checkout line without bringing up 10 of them to the poor cashier.

I don’t know who needs to hear it, but it would be great if folks would just look at their interactions with folks, and question am I just repeating some thing I heard and talking AT someone, instead of having a genuine conversation where I enjoy getting to know more about them. We don’t have to be anything to anyone, but being able to read the room and see where someone is coming from even if we don’t understand them is really great and priceless stuff.

There’s a ditch on both sides of looking at the wheelhouse as a first step.

The left ditch is insisting that a grand scheme to undermine orderly life explains every mishap, committed by some angry faction.

The right ditch is that the honest yeoman is by definition underserving of bearing any blame no matter what, in this world run by globalist a-holes. I don’t think either one is better than the other.

Fellas, you’re looking at wide angle HD video and satellite tracking. Suggesting a guy screwed up is not cutting his nuts off or feeding him to canines. It’s not mean spirited, condescending, or presumptive.

I’m not a captain goes down with the ship spouter, that’s ridiculous, but go research where that came from, and whether they were proud of it. Do you think, they would think, we have it hard, now? This otherworldly difficult to comprehend “stuff” - let alone, recover from, wouldn’t have stood with them. Hard to do yes, blame everybody else, no.

The bridge did have some “crack(s).”
How about the SOD “Save out democracy” or BUB? Biden Unification Bridge?
 
The NTSSB posted the time line from the ships recorder, there was very little time and they did drop anchor. If you believe the evening reports ?
If they truly dropped the anchor and the power died, the anchor will still be out. Likely the anchor was dropped too late, only on one side, and didn’t have time to catch to slow the ship down.

The anchor is out now for sure, I saw the picture myself. Anchors don’t always grab hold immediately but I would damn sure drop it.IMG_2500.jpeg

This is a little off topic, but I am in New Orleans this week on a job. I went into Metaire this afternoon, over the Huey P Long Bridge.

This is truly a magnificent structure. It is actually awe inspiring, especially after they performed the widening of the traffic lanes on each side this past decade.

The bridge is one of the engineering marvels of the past and the present. If you love large truss bridges, Louisiana has some of the finest.
