Fouler shots: What's the real deal?

After my barrel is completely cleaned and dry. I put three drops of Marvel Mystery oil (dime sized spot) install bore guide to keep oil out of chamber and push through barrel. It helps the first shot at 1000 yards be a lot closer. It also seems to help the barrel clean easier. Some guys I know use lock ease before they shoot. They say it also helps the first shot be closer. It must make the velocity get closer to a fouled barrel. Matt

My first clean cold barrel shot in my 6mm AI is always high for some reason and I will go 2-3 clicks down to allow for it when chuck hunting. I had a 6BR that had spot on first shot accuracy. Go figure.

I do have a question for the ones that go 100 plus rounds without cleaning. Is this 100 plus rounds fired in a short period of time, within a week or two or is it over a longer period of time, 2 to 3 months for instance.

I used to shoot factory 204's at egg shoots. Usually 100 rds per day with no cleaning. Try a clean burning powder such as Benchmark and the barrel would copper foul. Use sootier powders such as 10x and accumulating carbon would destroy accuracy.
The perfect powder turned out to be w-748 in that cartridge, bullet weight and velocity parameters. Not the most accurate load that could be developed but the consistency of the fouling more than made up for the slight loss.
I'd run over 500 rounds through that gun in a season. Sometimes a dry patch after shooting sometimes not. The last season I used that rifle in comp I didn't even clean it over the winter hiatus. Just ran a dry patch down the tube and started it up again.

It takes a long time to discover what powder might be suitable in any particular combination for doing this. When I begin testing with a powder I just never clean the bore. If during testing you see initial accuracy degrade it's usually a sign that powder is not going to work.
In my 6ppc which I also used in custom class I ditched the ever popular n-133 and found X-terminator and hbn coated pills would allow that gun to shoot all season without cleaning. My 6BR 14 twist likes the same combo.

It also helps greatly if you have central air or AC during the humid summer months. Without the bore may bloom like a garden,

I use Ballistol with the same result,
