Forming 6x47 Lapua

I'm sizing 6.5x47 brass to 6x47 in a single pass in a Forster die. The round will chamber, but the top of the neck is curled over slightly and the neck diameter varies a 0.0015" in this area. It straightens out when firing, but I'd like to prevent this if possible.

I'm thinking of using a 6.5x47 or 6x47 bushing die with a 0.280" bushing and complete the sizing with the Forster FL die. Would this help?

When you say the top, the mouth or the base of the neck at the shoulder?

Depending on the style of seating die you can remove the stem that contacts the bullet during seating and try running a test case up into the die to see if any neck dimensions change.

To clarify , you would be using your seating die to do the initial sizing of the neck from 6.5 to 6mm once ran through the seater and confirming a slight amount of sizing has been acommplished you would then move on to your 6x47 die.

There is a "wrinkle" around the perimeter on the case neck about 0.025" below the case mouth. Although it will still chamber, the wrinkle can be seen and measured.

Is your case too long? I would try trimming before sizing and see if the "wrinkle"disappears. Are you lubing well?

Yes, reducing the neck diameter in several steps will produce better results than going straight from 6.5mm to 6mm.

Well shoot. downsizing 6.5X47 to 6 is pretty much what my shooting life is all about still I must say, I have never seen anything like what you describe. I use the plain 'ol' Forster full length die just as you with never an issue.
Either lube, die too low or your batch of brass got some looooong necks dude. I started to say what I think I would do but...... Ok what's the average OAL of those brass right outta the box? When I get home I'll crack open a new box and get a few of mine measured. Then I'll get a measurement after I process one. Come back here tonight and we'll compare notes.
Then we can talk some more.

I used a .278 bushing in a 308 neck sizer I had to start downsizing the neck, and it eliminated the wrinkle I was experiencing with the Forster 6x47 Lapua die in a single sizing. The necked down length is averaging 1.848", 0.008" longer than the beginning length.
