Flat shootin,but accurate 6mm

I'm currently having a 6mm-06 imp built by Kevin Weaver on trued Rem. action with McMillan A-5, 30" Kreiger and am fully aware not to expect much barrel life. Wanting any recommendations for "BEST" 6mm for long range varmint hunting and 1000yrd shooting? Willing to give some barrel life for good cartridge. Opinions on bullets, loads, and prefered smith for such project.

I've not done alot of reasearch on 6BR but think I would prefer something that will not require alot of turret twisting to get from ranges between 400-800 and some 1000yrd shooting.

Thanks for all replys!

You really are asking for two different things.

For lr varmint look at http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek042.html in richard franklins 6mm AI and his use of 75 and 87 gr bullets with 10 or even slower twist barrels.

For 1000 yard BR you are looking at the longest heaviest bullet that is accurate which is the 100-108 range normally, and 8 twist barrels normally.

From my post at BR Central:
"Flat shooting" is oversold. Beyond 300-400 yards, drop is so great that compensating for it is required. Get the range off by say, 25 yards, and you will miss.

Get an accurate, reliable rifle. Shoot it a LOT. Learn its ballistics. Learn the wind. Doing these will improve your odds of hitting more than relying on a "flat shooting" caliber ever would.
See http://www.slrharbor.com/news.html# Note from the articles that while speed is important, it isn't everything. One of the more successful long range varminters uses a .308 Ackley Improved. Not too much different in case capacity than a 30-06.

YBuster, I shot a fast 6mm in the 2002 season in 1000yd bench, not great barrel life but sure was sweet to shoot.. I used a 100 thou leade reamer for a 6BR norma that i had available and ran it in another 600 thou, this brings it up to 2.160 long with a .479 base dia which is exact for the Lapua 6.5x55 swe brass. Best accuracy was at 3375fps with a 106 CR..I won a lot of trophys and reset the AUST Light Gun 1000yd 6match agg record for year ending '02,best to run it for about 1000 rounds ....JR..Jeff Rogers..PS..8.5 in twist

As soon as we can get a sufficient supply of brass, Jason is going to build a 6mm necking down the 6.5x47 Lapua. I think this will deliver performance very similar to a .243 Ackley Improved, perhaps with slightly better barrel life. With a tight-fitting chamber and the small primer pockets, you'll be able to run pretty high pressure. Running a Berger 95 VLD, I think 3300 may be possible from a 29" barrel, if it's throated pretty long.

Velocity would be considerably less with the DTAC 115, but that might be better at 1000 given the higher BC. It would be an interesting comparison though--3050 fps with the 115 vs. 3300 for a 95 VLDs. Inside 800 I'd give the edge to the Berger 95. Here's what Point Blank ballistic software predicts.

Berger 95,.520 BC), 3300 fps
Drop at 800 = 145"
10 mph drift at 800 = 37.64"

DTAC 115 BC,.580 BC), 3050 fps
Drop at 800 = 164"
10 mph drift at 800 = 36.55"
