First The Scope-THEN The Rifle

About this time last year l bought a used Leupold VX 3 6.5-20x40 AO scope to put on a 22-250 bolt gun...
The scope came set up with a Premier Reticle set up for 55gr Nosler BT bullets @3240FPS. Those pretty little dots are just so inviting.. l have made the decision to get a 223 bolt gun and see just how good these PREMIER dots work when used with their designed load...
Going to be a first for me. Never have l bought a scope first-THEN the rifle... Another challenge will be finding a range to shoot 500yds.

I expect if you get the load right and the atmosperic conditions are close you should find a magnification that will put you in the money.

Hope it works!

I've done something similar. Years ago I traded for a mid 1990's production Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40AO scope (fine duplex, standard turrets). It sat on the shelf for quite some time before I finally bought a .223 bolt gun to put it on......

It’s about 50/50 for me. Unless I gotta have something RIGHT NOW I just keep my eye open for good deals regardless of whether it’s optics or rifle. Eventually every item gets a mate.

Found the rifle.. A Rem 700 VLS in 223rem. lts used excellent shape. Pd around half of retail for a new one. l don't think its been shot too much because there's very little wear on the bolt.. Will mount the scope and try some 55gr factory since that's what the Premier Reticle is set up for, 55gr BT@3240fps.. Eventually a Shilen trigger in place of the ''EXX'' trigger
