First shot ALWAYS high, then groups settle down...??

I would skim bed the action before doing anything else. As stated the bedding block is one size fits all. When in reality it fits none of them correctly. Good luck and keep us posted. I would not waste the money on cryo. Waste of money IMO.

I am always amazed that fellows put major efforts into trying to make a rifle shoot without bedding it first. Remingtons are heat treated after machining, which results in a slight degree of warpage. Add this to polishing and no bedding block is going to have a perfect fit. Then there is the matter of getting the scope mounted properly, bedding the base(s) and lapping the rings. Beyond this there is the standard practice of checking all screws that have blind holes for bottoming. Then there are the bags, or in the case of a bipod, bag. How hard is your rear bag, and how do you shoot the rifle? I think it is better for a rear bag to be on the soft side, and that the rifle be well settled into before the first shot. Barrels are individuals. In formal, short range group shooting, there is no limit on sighters. Depending on what a barrel likes, whether, and how it was cleaned, some barrels may require several sighters before becoming totally predictable. Put one in the sighter , and then shoot five more right after. Problem solved.

I think the bedding may have cured my issue! The bedding block is interesting. After bedding it shows just how little the action contacts the block! I thought it had enough taper or angle that FAR more made contact. I was wrong.

Shot it yesterday and today despite high winds, mirage and this aftn a thunderstorm closing in on me. Reasonably round groups running .6 to .8 inches for five shots.

Found some 70 gr Berger VLD's and they show promise. Also dug around and found 3#'s of Accurate TAC powder.

Also going to try the 70's with Varget.
