First shot after cleaning

After cleaning I run an oily patch through the bore followed by 2-3 dry patches. The slight amount of oil will carbonize and help to stop copper build up. Then I fire 2-3 fouling shots before trying to shoot any groups.

"Speedy" Gonzales Hall of Fame bench rest shooter uses lock ease after a cleaning, but you don't need much and I believe if you use the aresol I think it has alcohol in it. RW[/QUOTE
According to his book, Tony Boyer does the same. Barlow

Hocus pocus it's all black magic. Roast me if you want, but I can tell you you one thing, never in a million years will you convince me that submerging a rifle in water and pulling the trigger has no I'll effects. Funny how they use an AK47, why not use a $4000 benchrest rifle?

During break in I've have tried a dry bore vs a wet bore and there is no doubt a dry bore coppers much worse. (Verified with a bore scope) Now my wet bore isn't dripping wet either, and I am convinced too much "wet" is bad, but I have never damaged a barrel. After cleaning and running dry patches through until there is no more sign of solvent I put 5 very small drops of Kroil on a patch and push it though, next thing though the barrel is a white hot chunk of lead. I really dont care about its point of impact, hence, calling it a Fowler shot, as long as it hits the berm I'm happy.

I've done this for a long time, and my barrels stay pretty competitive for as long as can be expected, I'm pretty sure by documenting round count and comparing to others I'm getting all I can get as far as barrel life is concerned

My old cleaning regimen was to put an oil patch down the barrel, followed by a dry patch...after cleaning. Barrels always cleaned up easily, and stayed clean longer.

Last 2 competition seasons I have been cleaning, and putting away dry after following up with an alcohol patch...no solvent or oil.

My barrels have been fouling more, and grabbing a lot more copper...making them WAY harder to clean (confirmed with a Hawkeye).

I'm going back to an oil patch, followed with 1 dry patch after cleaning, from here on out. I clean 5 and sometimes 6 barrels, twice a week. I feel this has given me a good reference between dry vs wet, then a dry patch to mop out excess oil.

I seem to recall reading that commercial urchin divers on hookah rigs (operating near the Farallon Islands), carried modified Glocks as a last ditch white shark repellent. Modified to lock the slide to the frame, I believe, making it a manually cycled thing.
