First Barrel for my 6.5x47L

Howdy, Life only gives you one first. This is my first custom barrel, a 1:8 HV Bartlein for my 6.5x47L. I was at the right place at the right time and was offered a referral to a local smith who specializes in precision barrels and only takes on work through trusted connections. This was just one of those neat experiences that left an indelible mark. I picked up my barrel yesterday and ended up shooting the breeze for a couple of hours. I tried to leave a couple of times as to not take up his valuable time but we just kept rolling into a different conversation. Real special when you get to listen to an old school smith chat about his trade and experience. I guess I’m sharing because the experience was way more valuable than anything material I walked out of there with, except maybe the custom headspace gauge for my chamber he made me because he wanted to do something nice. The gauge is a priceless reminder of a great time with a cool gentleman! IMG_0369.jpegIMG_0370.jpeg

Know the feeling, when I was just out of high School and used to go see Clair Taylor and Don Robbins in Rixford, PA. What a wealth of knowledge. You are gonna like the 6.5x47L , now you need a 6x47L and then a 22x47 and then a 7x47.

I have to agree with the above statements. A 6.5×47L has always been as easy to find a load for as a 308. My 6×47L was a piece of cake too.

Ha! Next build will be a 6.5x55, I want to go back to the roots
