FIREFORMING 220 RUSSIAN TO 6PPC

I have mad several searches on this topic. Ever thread has so many different opinions that this old mad is confused.

It seems to me that the simplest solution is to load 220 cases with .22 bullets using a shot out barrel and have at it. Is there a down side to this? Is there any reason I can't use a powder recommended for the 22PPC, such as CFE223 as I have plenty of this and loads of 22 bullets of various weights, I will most likely never use.

Once fireformed, I would expand and turn the necks.

X3,,, fastest way to get match quality brass I have found. I don't trim to length till the first firing after opening to 6mm and neck turning then fireform and trim to length, this makes them march ready.

I do this and keep a handful of 6mm/220R rounds in my ammo box at all times to use as a barrel warmer. Since I get 5-10 firings from Lapua brass, it's easy to stay ahead by shooting 2-3 as barrel warmers.

So first step expand the neck with a mandrel, neck turn with .002-.004” preferably.004” neck clearance load with 25 grains of benchmark or n133 and seat bullet long so it’s in a jam fire form and then your ready to load full power from there.
Pretty much.

Pretty much what I do . Others points are dry clean brass, dry clean chamber, only shoot a couple at a time do not let barrel/ chamber heat up. I wipe off cases and wipe out chamber with alcohol. This will keep your necks longer and of consistent length. Anneal cases before and after this process.

Why would you use a .22 projectile for the 6PPC? You can also buy Lapua 220 Russian brass that has been preped already and ready to load and shoot. More than one supplier.

Nick run the brass through your FL die. The shoulders need to be bumped before you load them to Fireform. Otherwise you could have a hard time closing the bolt.

I already have 220 russian brass but it is not prepped and ready to load. It is .22 cal. Using a burned out 6PPC barrel seems like an easy way to start. This will form the cases and they are then one step away from being turned. You can then expand the necks and turn them to whatever thickness is needed. In my case I have a .262 barrel so turning the necks means .008 thickness.

There are so many ways being suggested that I may just send them to DJ's and get it done right. does not cost much and when them come back they are done right. That's what I did with the last batch.

I am a DIY kind of person but sometimes it just isn't worth the effort, especially when you want it done perfectly.

Absolutely Right! If you’re not comfortable get DJs to do it.

I had DJ’s do all of my .262 neck brass and hydroform. I do all of the brass for my .268 nk rifle
