Finishing procedure on a 22 rimfire chamber

A strip of used 360 grit wet or dry and a bit of oil on a small wooden dowel works well..
If your reamer is cutting really good, probably no need to do that.....

Finishing a rimfire chamber is all about cleaning up the leade. With the soft lead bullets and low power of the round, it takes forever for it to wear in and clean up on its own. Some will say 1000-2500 rounds on its own. The established best practice is to use a cast lead lap and do a final very light lap through the leade to finish but that is more than most people want to do. The same can be accomplished by pushing slugs with lapping compound embedded but it can be risky to bore damage if not done carefully. The goal in the end is to have a clean smooth transition for the bullet to leave the case and move into the bore completely while maintaining the corners/edges as well as possible. How well it is reamed in the beginning will determine how much finishing is needed but pretty much all of chambers cut for rimfire can benefit from a post chambering lap. I do not mind to share my process further with you if you would like, just shoot me a PM and we will get in touch.
