FFL transfers and big box stores?

We used to have a little mom and pop shop in town, usual selection of ammo, a few rifles on the wall and handguns in a case. They closed a little while back and all we have now are the big box stores in the cities. A buddy was saying the other day that they are leaning away from doing transfers, lawyers afraid of their shadows I imagine. Has anyone else heard/seen anything similar?

Around these parts big box stores will not do them.

I have a loyal following of locals just to do paperwork. Look around, you might find a guy with a license that will do paperwork.

Go to Bud's and do an FFL search. Find a local guy and contact him. See if he would be willing to help..

The list of FFL's around here is pretty extensive.
I work with a guy who has a restaurant, so it's easy to meet up during business hours.
He charges 25.00 for guns and 5.00 for ammo.

All the small gun stores here, whats left are doing the federal three day rule. The only real box store here, (Bi-Mart) is still using the state back ground check and they have lost 90% of their sales because of it.
We lost another small gun shop yesterday here, bad news for us.

Are chain sporting goods stores now
"big box stores"? News to me.

Most vendors specializing in online gun sales, either direct or via Gunbroker etc. keep a list of verified FFLs near most zip codes. It's easy to browse such a list by going through the motions of buying a gun from such a vendor. In this way I found a good local pawn shop owner who's afraid of neither guns nor lawyers, and only charges $25 for an FFL transaction (plus any background check fees.)
