FF DASHER BEASS QUESTION.

I have at least a 1/2 dozen Dasher tubes that I've used over the years. They are all .272 no turn chambers.

I am in the process of having a whole new rifle built. I chose a .268 chamber for the new build. I had 250 GOLD BOX 6BR brass that I sent to DJ's Brass Service to have hydro formed.

Now, knowing that these brass aren't 100% Fireformed yet and the necks will be different lengths, would it hurt to fire them one time in one of my .272 chambers to make them more uniform before turning? Obviously I would turn a couple pieces after ff ing to make sure they would fit in the new chamber.

Good idea? Bad idea?

If the chambers were cut to the same spec minus the NK dia. you should be OK. I use a .268 FF barrel for my 6 PPC

I would have thought that neck sizing with your .272 die would be adequate, providing your expander/mandrel is suitably sized for the mandrel in the neck turner and save a firing and components.

If you were to run that brass over a concentricity gauge you will find that there is virtually no run out. Additionally, I have many of my Dasher customers that load my hydro formed brass out of the box with their match load and win at 1000 yards. That brass is as good as you can get with straight necks now.

Your brass your call.
My .02¢ worth.

If you fire them in a .272 nk chamber you will have to turn them while loose on the neck turner mandrel. You will not be able to get the neck uniformly sized down for the fit you're looking for.
