Feeding a 6 Dasher / BR from Detachable Magazine

Making the transition from Snipershide over to here so please take it easy on me. That place has gone down hill.

I am planning a new build and need some help here. The components consist of the following:

Stiller Tac30-AW action
McMillan A4 stock with Edge Technology
Jewell Trigger
APA bottom metal to feed AICS or AW magazines
Remington Varmint or Light Palma barrel

I shoot out to 1200yds weekly. I would absolutely love to feed a 6 Dasher or 6BR from Accuracy International magazines as I participate in PRS matches. Ive heard horror stories about accomplishing this. Having to add shims / spacers to the magazines....using SAKO extractors...unreliable feeding in general.

Is anybody here running a 6 Dasher or 6BR from detachable magazines? if so, how did you accomplish it? If I cant figure this out I'm going to have to go with a 6x47....which can be picky with load development.

I don't have any problem with my dasher feeding with a mags. With Remington 700 action

I have two 6 BRs that feed from AI mags. And three other buddies that have them. All feed great. A Br it has been said over and over the problem isn't feeding its ejecting. And if you want to look at a simple shim in a mag as a horror story and having to tune an ejector as a big deal then move on to something else that is more store bought. Now if your willing to spend a small amount of time and effort to tune them up front they are great. I will gladly share the info I have on modifying the mag its easy and works.

No experience with your setup but i heard 6 Dasher feeds great from Accuracy International mags

Why fix this, modify that, change something else? Just call Garry and get a R-5. Works for 6BR, BRX, Dasher. Been using one for years.

will that R5 mag fit an AI magwell or does it only fit the Elieso tube gun?

I don't mind doing anything as long as its going to work reliably in the long run. My 6.5x47 feeds fine from AI mags, but Im wanting to switch things up and do a 6mm. My buddy just did a 6 Competition Match that hammers.

Ive never had to modify an extractor. Can you explain to me a little bite about doing this? Ive heard Sako style extractors get more bit on the rim on short stubby cases like the 6BR and Dasher. However, I believe the Stiller action I am going to use has a modified M16 style extractor. No idea if that is going to work for this project or not.

Im fairly mechanically inclined. Making the shims and slot milling them to clear the spring in the AI mag won't be too hard. And flaring the feed lips. Im just not finding any videos or images of these mods being done. Its much easier to look at some images and get an idea of what needs to be worked on.

Any advice would be great. I ordered my barrel last night. Have to decide on the reamer specs and free bore.

Pm me your email and I will send the pics of the mag mod. Your welcome to post them. I am just not sure how. Anyway all it is is cut the front of the follower off by about 3/8" and add a shim in the front of the mag. Hold the shim in with a screw or pop rivet. This only holds the shim when it is out of the rifle as when it is in the rifle the action has the shim trapped. Extractors I have one that sako and one that mini M16 both work just fine. I use actions with coned bolts was told they feed better? They work. The ejector you have to be get just the right length. If its too long the round will catch coming out of the mag under it.Too short and it wont hold the case against thee side of the action. A small radius or angle on the bottom of the ejector can help the case get by it. Tuneing the ejector can take no time at all or say maybe an hour. make up 5 dummy rounds and test it on the bench. I can run the bolt as fast as I want and it feeds. I use the rifle in tactical style matches. get it right up front and you will never have to mess with it. Any more questions let me know. I am sure others have different ways of doing this. This is just what I have done. Probably close to 10000 rounds thru my two rifles with this setup.

I have a Dasher as do quite a few guys shooting PRS these days. No one I know has had to modify anything. I run Surgeon 591's with rem extractors and aics mags. No modifications at all. Heck, even my my fireform loads feed just fine.

My Br has an OAL of about 2.4" not sure what you guys are running on your dashers? Believe me I didn't want to cut on an AI mag they aren't exactly cheap. I tried the BR without mag mod and after a couple rounds the recoil would let the lower rounds walk forward and not present the top round to the feed lips of the mag. Longer OAL would make it better.
