FED 215 Vs. CCI LR magnum

I am about to receive a 257 Weatherby (info on that later). Of course, I've found several loads for it, and they all state FED 215 primers. Well, all I have are CCI LR Magnum primers. Would I have to adjust loads (up/down) because of using CCI's? I know...Load some up and try them. Just hoping to find out what other loaders have done in this situation.

I don't have a 257 WB. But for other magnums, I start with the CCI Mags first. I think the 215s are hotter and it seems like the coolest primer that gets things burning well seems to be best IME. If it helps, the CCIs seem to do well in everything I shoot (6.5 SAUM, 300 WSM, 7 STW, and 30-28 Nosler). I don't see why they wouldn't work in the 257 WB.

In terms of load adjustment, I am guessing they will yield lower pressure than the Fed 215, but I would drop a bit and do a powder ladder to make sure.

F-215's have, the biggest "Flash" of all, the Mag Primers in the Test reports that, I've read !
I have used them myself, in .270 Wby, .270 WSM , 7mm Rem Mag and .338 Win Mag
BUT,. I would try a few of BOTH to see, which one, gives you the best, accuracy load.
I found, F-215's beat out, the Win Mag Primers, for accuracy, for,.. ME !

It's been a while back, I read that of all the large rifle magnum primers, Remington's were the mildest. In your moniker, is the Fe for Ford FE?

FWIW, ALL the Speer load data for the 257 Weatherby Magnum uses CCI 250 LRM primers. Interesting because Alliant powders, Speer, CCI, & Federal are all under the Vista Outdoors umbrella.

For comparison the Speer load data for the 25-06 Remington cartridge typically uses Federal primers when Alliant powders are called for, CCI primers when other powders are called for.

Federal 215s will usually produce a little more velocity then a CCI 250 but not a huge amount you would be safe with the same load between them however you may see a pretty big accuracy difference depending on what your combination wants.

I was shooting 210s in my 284 with R26 until I tried cci200s. Accuracy improved.

Alex, do you predominantly have better success with Fed or CCI? Also, do you see much actual benefit in Fed M and CCI BR's? I've always wondered why CCI doesn't make a BR magnum rifle primer.

Most of the time the 250 wins for me but not always. Br or match primers are just different. Many times in br a rifle will shoot a non br or match primer better.
