best deer hunting bullet for whitetail?

Any cup-n-core 6mm bullet will smoke a white tail. Spend more only if it increases your confidence.

Confidence in your equipment, and shot placement.

3200 FPS? That will suck the insides right out!

I don’t Care for Hornady, but, the last couple of years I’ve used the SSTs in my Grendel. I think in the 2500 FPS range. It is impressive! Shot 3 deer so far. This year’s the top third of the heart was missing, and part of the lung was sticking outside the exit hole! Tracking was not required...

I don't know if this would affect anyone's answer to my original post. because of the terrain and position of the blinds that I hunt , I rarely have a perfect broadside shot. I don't take any unethical shots, but a lot of less than ideal shots.

I was always told Partitions will blow through bone and slowly expand, but mostly stay together. Ballistic tip will break up and have several wound channels.

As I read thru this my response was going to be the Sierra 85 bthp. It is a devastating round in my 6mm Rem with most all deer dropping in their tracks. However, I shoot EVERY deer with it BEHIND the shoulder or not at all. Based on your last info with the different shooting angles I’d go with the 95 Nosler partition. As some others have stated it shoots better in some guns than the 100 grain. Use the search function and look for 6mm Rem loads and there are a few posts that one member gives several of his loads for deer with this caliber that is very informative. I’ll look for it as well. Good luck.

My first handload to take game was a 325 roundnose semi jacket out of a 375 H&H. I had been concerned about tracking a wounded deer, but it turns out it was not a problem.........

I'm a big fan of the Berger 87 GR VLD> Me and my friends have taken a lot of whitetails with that bullet. Haven't lot one yet..... The 95 VLD is also very good.

Have always been a fan of a bullet with a tapered jacket for controlled expansion and a means of mechanically securing the core for whitetails. These are absolutely reliable on the average deer with non-magnum cartridges from the muzzle out to as far as a person should reasonably shoot at them.

When I did use the 243Win, the Hornady Interlok served me well after having inconsistent expansion with the Partition, the Ballistic Tip and the Game King. Mind you that 99% of my shooting is for a double-pneumothorax, ribcage shot.
