30" 1-8 tw. barrell

I found this weekend,at 300 yds, 28 gr. of Benchmark pushing a 107gr. SMK gets you v-bull after v-bull. BR-4 primers, length of 2.250"

"UPDATE"
I tried 30 Gr. of RE-15 recently pushing Lapua 105's and at 500 and 600 yds its absolutely deadly accurate.
Works well at 900 and 1000 as well but losing out to the 6.5 x284's.

My rifle is a Sako AII with braked 24" Hart barrel, 14" twist. The chamber is .010" longer than brass, .272"nk, 0 freebore. This is for prairie dogs, not target shooting or anything else. It's fed a diet of light bullets 55-65gr. Bullets are seated .005" off the lands. All are coated with a film of Lee Lube.

I've tested Reloder 7, Reloder 15, XMR2015, AA2230, AA2230-S. Most accurate powders are listed below.

Reloder7/55BallisticTip/Rem.primer - No overpressure signs with any of these loads.
30.0 = 3638
30.5 = 3706
31.0 = 3780 Most accurate
31.5 = 3832

In my rifle, AA2230 gave best accuracy and velocity. No signs of overpressure.
AA2230/Sierra55BK- primer test Rem7-1/2BR/BR4
34.5 = 3777,BR4)
35.0 = 3864,BR4) 3851,Rem)
35.5 = 3970,BR4) 3919,Rem)

AA2230/58VMax/Rem. primer
34.0 = 3708
34.5 = 3776
35.0 = 3855
35.5 = 3923

AA2230/65VMax/Rem primer
33.0 = 3607
33.3 = 3684
33.6 = 3710

In this rifle AA2230 is just magic. But different lots of this powder would shoot very differently. Enough to about drive you crazy. These loads are from a keg bought in summer 2005 and it's hotter than some older stuff, also accurate at higher velocities. Some of them grouped in the .1"s during load workup. When it's time to put more together, the load will be 58Vmax/55BT's at 3855 or 3919. The 65's at 3675-3700 shoot awfully well too.

Here is another load that works very well out of my rifle;

Brass-Lapua
Powder-30.3grns Varget
Primer-CCI 450
Bullet-105grn A-Max
COAL-2.330
Neck Tension-.002

This load is shooting in the .1's in my custom 6BR.

Using a 26" Pac-Nor 3 grove 9 twist barrel, on a Savage action, with a rifle basic Sav-2 trigger, pillar bedded Richards Micro fit stock with a 3" wide forend.
I mostly shoot 80g Berger's, fire formed in Lapua brass, that's 90% bushing neck sizes with Forster equipment, and using BR-4 primers with 30.5g of varget, and with the bullets seated at .010 into the lands. All bullet tip runout is checked and keep to a maximum of .004. It shoots vary well at 100 and 200.
At 100 it will shoot in the mid .1s to mid .3s depending on me most of all, and considering Im using a factory mass produced bullet. I have been shooting this rifle for two years now, and and am in the process of building a new 22BR rifle, so its start all over again. Don'T you just love it.

6br, how far off the lands is the 105a-max.? I've been shooting sierras' 107 at .015 off I never tested at 100 yrds but at 300 yrds my groups run about 1-1/4" or less. Been thinking about trying the hornadys to save a few bucks since my wife is shooting in matches too.
thanks,
treeman

If 6mm includes .243 Winnie Pooh, I have my druthers firmly in place. However, for 6mm BR applications, I'm here to learn. Some 6mm applications are my pets, I'm quite sure performancewise. I use Hodgdon H4350 and Alliant Reloder 22 exclusively. Am I missing out on superior powder applications? Love my results, accuracywise to date, but I'm here to learn . . . cliffy

30.2g of Benchmark; 7 1/2; Lapua brass; 70g Nosler Ballistic tip or 70g Sierra Blitz king jammed hard in the lands shoots remarkable at 200 yards, groups in the high 1's to high 2's.

Action is trued 722 with a 28' lilja in a 1-12 twist, McMillen BR stock.

Work up to this load in your rifle.

I only know what I experience, so a 1-in-14' twist seems too sluggish regarding ANY 6mm accuracy load. At 1-in-9 1/8' twist, my 700 Remington stabilizes all 90 grain to 105 grain bullets into my best groups to date. I believe half of what I see, and nearly nothing that I read. A 90 grain Swift Scirocco II bullet appears to have no peers down-range. My findings, to date, are from range experience, and not from published reading. I still like 100 grain Speer Grand Slammers! cliffy

Cliffy,

So have you actually shot a 105 Scenar in a 9 or 10 twist 6BR?

In my 8.5 twist 6BR they shot great at 500yds, but at 1000 went all vertical because they were losing stability. More speed or more twist would have fixed the vertical.

This thread concerns loads for the 6mmBR Norma ONLY. I have deleted posts that deal with other chamberings. We do not want to confuse readers who turn to this thread for suggested loads for their 6BR.

Anyone wishing to discuss loads for other chamberings can do so elsewhere in the Forum

Sorry, I work for a defense contractor and breathe acronyms. ;)

'ITL' is intended to mean 'in the lands'. I typically use ten thousandths,.010') jam into the lands with Sierra bullets. Oddly, Bergers do not seem to do well at that setting and I shoot them back .01 to .02 from the lands.
